Miller Dynasty 300 price , hours and arc strikes

OK here is the deal , I have the chance to buy a dynasty 300 welder for around 2500 dollars , thing is I'm in Mexico , and not a lot of people know about these welders , so i come here for some info and opinions.Link to the actual welderhttp://san-nicolas.anumex.com/anunci...ynasty/7974796He states that the machine works on 440 volts , but i can barely tell that it also works with 220 volts.. ( I'm hoping it works with single phase , thats what i have in my shop).He does not state what model it is... But from the pictures I'm guessing its a Dynasty 300 with a coolmate 3 on the bottom.How many hours is to much hours before i have to face replacing circuit boards worth 1000'sHow many arc strikes are way too much ( This welders seems it came out from a production line o serious welding shop , you can tell be the "TIG 02" sticker on the side in the first picture).I"m welding AL , so I'm guessing this machine is ideal for my purpose .Let me know what you think! Reply:Look on the miller site.  Do a search for "Dynasty 300".  There's a thread on it where Cruiser, the resident electrical guru and repair tech, states that no one should buy one.  They're getting old and parts are becoming scarce in his opinion.  I agree, it doesn't seem like that bad a deal, especially if you could get him lower.  I'd personally step away.The SN dates that machine to a 1999 build date.Last edited by Drf255; 04-04-2014 at 05:03 AM.Reason: Added content.

Would be a shame to buy all the peripherals and find out it is fried. The cooler may be worth $400, so they are essentially asking $2100 for the Dynasty. Reply:The welder is a Dynasty 300DX Left factory around  02/16/1999.The design is like the xmt304. you have a 15 year old welder. Unless the inverter caps have been replaced they are near end of design life. Could fail at any time.Yes it will work on either 230 or 460 volts. single or three phase. Max out put is limited to 200 amps on single phase power. Do to components for the pc boards going obsolete and changes in other parts some parts may no longer be available. It would take a call to Miller tech support and ask what parts are available and for how long.Do not buy unless you can power it up. All you need to do is change the plug to change the voltage it runs on. The welder will auto link to 230 or 460 volts.If the line cord is still connected like it came from factory, tape up the red wire in the line cord for single phase power. Black and white must have  line power on them for the welder to turn on.You may even what to pull the cover off first and give it a close look over.If the big capacitors are white . you will want to replace them right away, the kit is $200 to $300 . Make sure you put the cover back on before powering up. If some thing shorts and explodes, electrical fire and plastic parts can come flying out at high speed.You are looking at a welder that could last another 10 years or blow up next week. You have to know what you are willing to risk on a welder with a lot of bells and whistles.You may want to pass on this one and look for a syncrowave 250. Simple basic AC/DC TIG welder.

Reply:The first caps used were all white with black writing. quite a few years ago they switched brands and they are blue. At least with the dynasty 300 the old caps and the new caps are the same size.On a xmt304 when you replace the white caps you have to replace the mount also.

Reply:Hey Limeweld,Ok i just finished typing a pretty long post and touched the wrong button using the cell and wound up loosing everything i typed…Damm iphone.So to cut to the chase the first 2 #s are of the dynasty reposting and finally ending 27aprilAnd the 3rd and 4th #'s are of two different auctions of different manufacturer old school digital inverters i used in 2001 at a former boss yachtie repair business- worked great on aluminum tubing for railings and bimini topsThe last one is unit only with a lot of seller instructions and time and date of inspection yada yada local pickup onlyAnd lastly change your ebay search settings to "business and industrial" and also change the menus to either " newly listed" or "ending soonest" if you leave the menu to ebays " best match" youll be searching through a Lot of unnecessary crap to get to them251510913863251517151982181393451585271471819413Enjoy
