To tough of a job???
Reply:stay away from that job!face all times with a positive mental attitude, then and only then will you have done your best.
Reply:Price a replacement frame from a junk yard and add $5000 for labor.I wouldn't touch that with your... um... liability insurance.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:How tough it will be only you can see in person - but I personally turn them down.Junkyard frame is cheaper than my labor on older stuff.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Well,The leaf spring brackets are broke, as well as the leaf springs, tie rods bent, engine mounts broke out, and Lots of other things all bent and broke out...
Reply:Around here you can buy those trucks in good shape for 1000-1500 so not worth your time

Reply:I have a old 79 sitting up at the farm  if someone did that to it I'd for sure go abouts fixing it just cause of sentamental reasons so really depends if the guys willing to spend the money maybe buy a donor truck and start swapping
Reply:It's broke in so many places. To much work, and he can use his sledge hammer, not mine. The more I look at the more work it looks like. Not me.Just delete this thread. It's disgusting.
Reply:Sorry AK, but i disagree this thread should no be deleted, in fact it contains very good informations as to look at a job with a different eye. Many times the challenge to make a repair and it's accomplishment is our only reward, this thread shows the big picture with the financial outcome. Just for that, it may prevent skilled welders /lousy administrators to get involved in that sort of time and money pits. been there done that, thank's for sharing
Reply:It's good thread to look at, we all get customers wanting jobs like this done, (and most usually with no idea of the work involved) . Thanks for taking the time to post it.
Reply:Ok,Keep it up....I'm not gonna touch the truck, and I told the guy so.Thanks anyway....~John
Reply:Good reference for anyone else thinking about the same thing.I know a guy that, if this were his truck, he would start by getting it running (engine) even if it cost him hundreds of dollars.  Then, he would start looking at the rear suspension.  He would spend hundreds on that.  THEN, he would start trying to figure out how to fix the front end.  He always starts with the easiest part and disregards the rest until he gets to it.He's the kind of guy that would be building a porch when the house is on fire. Good decision to turn this one away.  It could be a fun project for someone who works on their own stuff and has an emotional attachment to the truck.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Yep it looks like one of those jobs folks used to bring us that had no welding or shop experience.   Of course they thought we should be able to repair it in about a day and a half.   Good post to let folks see what its all about.
Reply:This was a joke, right?
