Does anyone have any direct experience comparing these machines?
Reply:ESAB is a great machine. My one complaint is the foot pedal costs nearly 500 and it runs off  a CAN bus so you can't buy aftermarket.NickESAB CaddyTig 2200iPowermax 45MM140 (Sold)
Reply:The Esab has a built in circuit board in it's pedal, so no way for average Joe to adapt another one to it. Right now I could get a Esab 22001 AC/DC with a ft pedal (demo with a ft pedal, and three year warranty) for about $2,200.00 Thermal 186 (Victor) about $1,700.00 with a ft control.. Most places on line are about $1,800.00. I would spend the extra for the way the Esab interfaces with the machine. The Thermal can be improved over the stock layout, but the machine has room for growth The Esab is made in Sweden,(The one I looked at) and the Thermal is Made in China (The one I own) 20 extra amps is valuable too. If I had to pay much more for the Esab 2200i, I would just step up the the Esab 281 with the standard SSC control ft pedal.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i

Reply:The hot start on the 186 is all pedal related. Take the second switch out of the mix, and the issue goes away completely. Not one issue on starting the arc with a quality tungsten/ ground correctly. The only two real issue as far as performance would be just how fast it ramps up on AC. Fast enough in general, but people use to machines that really hit it right now, it can be bothersome. Like the  last model of Arcmaster 185/ Prowave 300 etc... It's tail out on the arc was superior too. Just seemed to feather out nicer overall on the 185.( Really minor if you are use to a dynasty 200) The Arc quality on the 186 is as good as anything made anywhere. Noise is not bad to me, but I am use to Esab transformer, and certain inverters. They flow tons of air, so that is what you are going to get as a by product. So a few things can be improved, but not the overall arc quality.(IMO)Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
