I was having some issues last weekend running some metal cored wire with my 12vs, it would weld for about 10 seconds and the wire would weld itself to the tip.  I later found out that the hi/low speed selector switch was on low feeding around 250ipm when that wire wants around 24-25v @ 450-500ipm, STUPID ME!The one thing that I did notice though is that my flow meter has a severe leak. The bottles stay inside with the XMT and I have a 50' gas extension hooked up to the suitcase with a q.d. so it can be dragged outside to use. I usually turn the bottle on and purge the line with the button on the 12vs, so I'm never right next to the bottle when it is flowing. I had my dad hold the purge button so I could check the flow just to make sure I was getting enough gas and after he let off it kept flowing for about 10 seconds (guessing that's to build back line pressure) but unlike my argon flow meter, it kept hissing after the ball dropped in the sight tube. I have a bottle of leak detection solution and checked all the fittings from the bottle to the hose an all were fine. It sounds like it is coming from the holes on the bottom of the tank pressure gauge. I turned the bottle off and the pressure dropped immediately.I got this Profax one with the 12vs, so would this thing be worth rebuilding and if not should I stick with a flow meter setup or get a standard regulator?ThanksTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:All depends on what the rebuild will cost.  HTP sells a nice Flow meter on sale now for $35, and I would rather buy new than repair the Profax.http://www.usaweld.com/Welding-Flowmeter-p/12020-f.htm

Reply:I brought it to a service shop I deal with for work on my way to another tool store and he said it had Victor internals, could not find the leak but could hear it. Ended up being the pressure gauge diaphram leaking. He replaced it and I also purchased a rebuilt Harris regulator for $75 O.T.D.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE

Reply:$500 for a rebuild HOLY CRAP!I would look for a local torch repair shop for that price. I have never used a mixer but what is in there to make it that much?Sent from my SPH-L710 using TapatalkTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE

Reply:Thanks Steve & Cope, I have been debating purchasing a spare for my tig just in case and it never hurts to have too many regs. They have a good price on that stubby gas lens kit too.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
