Reply:We had a monster version of that from the same brand at a shop I used to work at. Lots of years on it and it never failed when ever I borrowed it to "unstuck" my jeep.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
Reply:Lug All beats those things five ways to Sunday.the one you showed is no doubt better than the cheapo chinese ones, but its still stamped steel  and just does not inspire much confidence in me.I buy the ones like you show, regardless of where they are made, for five or ten bucks at garage sales, but whenever there is actual risk involved if it fails, I use a Lug All-http://www.lug-all.com/pages/cableratchetov.phpyup, they cost more. And they are worth every penny.I have one LugAll I paid full retail for, and another one I got at a garage sale for 25 bucks. And a half dozen or more of the crappy stamped ones.
Reply:Yeah, the Masdaam's are good pullers. Amazing they're still made here. I have a Dayton from Graingers that's about 20 yrs old. It's been a good one 'cause I've put some awful loads on it. What usually screws up any cable comealong is when someone decides they need a cheater on the handle. Also if they're dropped and thrown around it eventually renders them almost useless.                                             MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:thats about the only brand I will use. I have one of the high dollar, aluminum, cats meow, not good for what I do, that I payed  100 for used and it just sits in the shop, I cant get drilling bits as tight with it ( I use1 come-along to tighten a taper thread and 2 to break, least cable tool bits)  . I have 4  maasdams double lines laying around 1 of them needs cable and 2 need hooks, the hooks stretch until they are 90s rather than hooks, gets spooky when they flip off. and one thats going strong never thought of using a cheater bar though. I havent had to break a bit for a while.. Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Reply:I've got the exact same one.  I hate to admit that I got it at a garage sale for $5.Well worth having.  My wife lifted our seriously heavy treadmill up a flight of steps with just one hand with it.

Reply:they are a come-along, not designed for overhead lifting, lawyers say unsafe for  overhead. The hooks start spreading where about the 45 degree mark  out of straight pull would be on a good crosby. But a good crosby hook is roughly 10.00 by itself in that size.  For the price they are one of the nicest come-longs built. and I get more when the old ones break, I know I abuse them. Icing on the cake, American built.Last edited by idacal; 08-12-2011 at 11:39 PM.Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Reply:I have the Wyeth-Scott puller. Got it from my grandpa. things gotta be 40+ yrs old still pulling strong. shoulp probably replace the cable, but I'll worry about that when I actually start pulling something that might actually get to half the rated pull force. The thing is a tank. though a good handle is important. I've bent a couple long pipes with it. but it has never failed to pull anything out of where it was stuck. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:x2 on the wyeth scott "more power puller". More expensive @ $150.00, but  super strong, and made in ohio, I think. Apples to oranges with respect to zap's come-a-long really, but a great tool.I got one this spring at a swap meet for $40.00   It was missing the handle, and snatch block. Woo.
