Reply:Funny with him it's more two for me.Dident get a chance to get it running today, been rebuilding a rotten box trailer frame... Bid it so high so I wouldn't get it but ended up getting it. Tomorow I'm going to try to get it running. Had spark but pretty week. Thinking the points need cleaned.Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
Reply:Excellent score!! Hope to see some videos of the restoration on YouTube like your SA250. Some Blue , Some Red & Some GreyProverbs 16:2-3.2 "All a persons ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. 3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."
Reply:If you keep it towable, when you show up on a job, you can weld twice as fast. Hold a stinger in each hand and get after it. Do the root pass and cover pass in one go around. Have your little helper there stick in new rods every time you hold up an empty stinger. Get him an auto dark hood to keep his eyes safe.

Reply:Funny, he refers to me xmt as his blue welder. After a trip to the mini mart for a fill up, it lives. The water pump needs replaceing badly. The fan wobbles for much it smacks the shroud but did run it long enough to run some 7018 and it seems to run them well. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk

Reply:You can buy a water pump rebuild kit for about 1/2 price of buying another one. I can't think of the place right now though. Maybe Duane or someone will come along and know before I find it. But Stumpf has them for $105 rebuilt or $155 new.
Reply:It takes about an hour to disassemble, sand blast and rebuild an F-162/163 water pump with a $60 rebuild kit so it boils down to how you view your time. I normally keep a couple kits in stock so they're readily available to do a rebuild and result in less $$ tied up in inventory than stocking remanufactured pumps. If I have a good core or two on hand and have the time I'll rebuild them in advance to reduce a units downtime and still have the same $$ invested in inventory. That being said, Stumpfs' $105 price is very hard to beat.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Have a question for the gurus of gas engines. Got it running runs strong, no trouble burning 1/4 inch 7024s maxed out. Got it hot and noticed coolent around head gasket, pulled head and noticed a lot of oil in the rear cylinder. The exaust valve seems to have more play than the rest. Could the oil be coming from a worn guide? Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
Reply:Forgot to mention little to no blow by coming out the breather. Not too sure if I'm worried to much about it or not. I have not done too many gas engines that were not p&w radials. No idea on the hours on the machine but guessing low based on its history. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
Reply:Did you do a compression test before teardown, or put a vacuum gage on it?I'm not familiar with this specific engine, but I would guess like you say, about the exhaust valve, or a bad oil control ring. How'd the head gasket look, any oil passages in that vicinity?Sent from my XT907 using TapatalkLast edited by dubl_t; 05-20-2014 at 12:59 AM.Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....

Reply:I dident do a compression check dident figure it was necessary since it ran so well. Dident expect to find the oil. I don't think there are any oil passages to the head. Not much of a ridge at all. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk

Reply:FunnySpent the morning stripping the doors and hood. Have some rust holes on the hood I think I'm going to bend a piece and weld over. Think I'm going to use truck bed stuff on the hood to cover up the patch and so I don't have to worry about scratching it. I'm going to make this one cat yellow and black for the engine and generator. Or maby IH red and white but leaning to cat yellow. Never seen one like that before.Have about 1200 bucks worth of parts coming for the the rest of it too. Sent from my HTC One X using TapatalkLast edited by darlingtonfarm; 05-22-2014 at 12:17 PM.
Reply:You used a Festool sander on METAL! Better hope the woodworking forum people don't see that.Looking good though, can't wait to see pics of it all painted.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Funny, yep love that sander, rotates and orbits. You can strip a floor faster than you can with a big drum sander and you can level stuff like you can with a belt sander. Oh and strip paint. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk

Reply:Love to do a ss hood but too cheap to spend that. Got all my parts today. Like Christmas... but I'm paying the bill. Really excited to finally have a ditch box. Going to wire it up to run on my 250 too. Hopeing to get it back together tomorrow and put a couple hours on it to see if I need to replace the rear seal.Looks like its pretty low hour from the wear on the armature and exciter. Reply:Got it up and running yesterday. Replaced the head gasket, head bolts, water pump and alternator. The r57 ideler has a vacume leak so it going to get replaced with an electronic kit. No oil leaks to so far. Going to burn some rods today and see how that holds. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk

Reply:Looking good. That exciter armature appears to have been arcing on some of its bars. Does it arc when running?Your R-57 idler leak could be the needle valve stuck open. If you still wind up replacing it with an electronic unit and don't want it let me know.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Derp, helps if the vacume line going to the diaphragm is actually hooked up. It pulls it to idle now. Any one know if you can get the seal on the governor arm? Seems to be my only oil leak.I set the ocv at 89 and am really impressed. Burned a couple lbs of 5/32 7018. It really stacks metal nice. Run in 5th gear and about 20 and it really stacks, way easier to carry metal than with my 250 diesel. Going to play with some 6010 tomorrow. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
