Ground clamp

I bought a new ground clamp. I didn't realize how much bigger it was until I put them side by side. Tweco claims 500 amps. Which Is over double what I need but she clamps really strong. Reply:I'm far from a collection the old one (on the right) is to replace the cheapo HF clamp on my 80a inverter I broke it last week by looking at it wrong. Reply:I have used several ground clamps through the years and the all get hot unless you maintain the cleanlinessof the connection.....running 275 amps AC all day heats things up and makes smoke happen from the ground lead.....I ended up crimping an eyelet on the end of my ground cable and bolted it to the table with a 1/2 bolt.....Even after two hours of constant welding its cool as a cucumber....Using a milling machine vice I clamp my parts or a larger weld fixture.....   Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock

Reply:The point where the finely stranded cable enters the clamp is a problem. Make a fresh connection, it isn't long before it frays. Tin the stripped lead, slip on a heat shrink tube with sealant over the cable, coat with Noalox, and make connection. Slide over the heat shrink and heat it with a heat gun. You'll get longer from a connection, then all you need to worry about is A holes with fork lifts.
