I just bought a brand new Lincoln AC 225 welder.I've never used the Tweeco style electrode holder that comes with the machine before.  Don't know if I like it...If I bought this 400A Bernard style holder......would it be a straight swap and would it work okay with the AC 225?Anyone use both and have a preference either way?I would add...I used the Bernard style on my course and liked it however I've never used the Tweeker style.Last edited by Hardware; 08-31-2011 at 09:26 AM."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Reply:I like those better myself and it will work fine.  they do take a bit longer to put in a new rod but if you are hobby welding its not a big deal.  u can also run the electrode down shorter with thoseTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:I have the bernard shortstub on my lincoln ac225s, and it works great. I often burn the rod within 1 inch of the holder, and it withstands that just fine. I havnt used a real tweco, but I did try opening and closing a tweco style holder at princess auto, and it was really stiff, and it didnt feel nearly as nice as my bernard, the twecos are too big and bulky.Deereman75 from TBNLincoln electric AC225SBlueshield O/A torchSmiths aircraft torchCH 3HP 220V air compressorlots of power toolslongevity stickweld 250
Reply:I asked the same question in December 2006 - see "Stick Electrode Holder Choice" at http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=7867I agree with soutthpaw.  I began with Tweeco's and now prefer Bernards. With a low powered 110 volt input welder the Tweeco is better because you stick so many rods!  You got to break contact and with the Tweeco you just sweeze the clamp.  Bernard style takes too long; you can't rapidly unscrew the handle to let go the rod. However, with a 230 volt input welder with balls like your AC-225, I really prefer the Bernard.  Load up and put a bend in the rod to suit your style and away you go.  You have the wrist power to quick twist a stuck rod free easily; you can't do that with a Tweeco because the clamp slips opens and the rod comes out of the holder!  One other plus for the Bernard style, you don't have that dumb clamp handle getting in you way, sometimes trapping your hand.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet

Reply:For beam work, I like em, for everything else, no thanks. Suck out loud for pipe, in my opinion...I know 2 guys who swear by them..400A stinger is just a tad overkill for the little buzzer...Have fun!Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:I run a 200 amp Tweco for most work and the Shortstub for baseball bat rods and structural jobs.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:remember that the holder that comes with a lincoln tombstone is not a tweco, and is actually very differnt, and a real pain.Deereman75 from TBNLincoln electric AC225SBlueshield O/A torchSmiths aircraft torchCH 3HP 220V air compressorlots of power toolslongevity stickweld 250
