Hi all,I am just wondering if anyone out there has a Chiry brand plasma cutter or welder ? I sell locally and repair them and am just wondering what everyones opinions are on these machines ? Chiry also manufactures Dayton machines and ParkerMP as well. Oh and to people who will probably PM me wanting me to sell to them on the forum, I do not sell online because it is too hard to give proper service to my customers so Sorry (and I wouldnt want to break any forum rules)! Thanks,Darryl
Reply:How about giving us your true unbiased opinion of them. How many of the machines you sell end up back in your shop being repaired? What breaks on them? I have been thinking about getting one of these cutters, but I am disturbed right now because you specify that you repair them, and ALL of the repair must be on relatively new machines.
Reply:I do do the repairs but so far I have only had to repair ones that have been damaged in shipping (but if warranty repairs do come up I will look after my customers). Such as my personal unit I had to tear it all apart because one of the PCBs was damaged, UPS really wrecked this machine when it was being shipped to me. As far as warranty work I havent had to do any yet, I have been selling them since augest 2005.The most common problem I find is people running at too high an air pressure which causes the consumables to wear fast on the Plasma Cutters, the recomended pressure is between 70-80 PSI.My customers seem to like the machines and are quite happy, One guy actually phoned me and told me about how he showed his friend up who owns a Miller Plasma.I personally own a chiry ct 416 which is a 40 amp Plasma/160 amp tig/150 amp stick. I am quite happy with its performance so far. I havent got to try the tig on this unit yet (my welding skills are well less than desireable), but I can lay a nice bead with the Stick function on flat plate. As far as the Plasma goes well it works flawlessly as well, it can cut up to about 1/2" steel.Overall I think they're a good bang for the buck (that can and will perform) but you want someone who is going to back you on Warranty and parts (never know when or if your gonna need it even the best sometimes come with problems), And well Ebay probably isnt the best place for that most guys are on there for the quick buck, thats why they sell so cheap they dont do the repairs so they dont need any facilities and they have low over head, just running from there home.Well thats about as straight up as I can put it !Darryl
Reply:I have one more question. Are the consumables the same as the more common plasma cutters, or am I going to have to order consumables?
Reply:I dont know of any off hand that will interchange, but the consumables from Mitech, Chiry and Riland are all the same along with Dayton and ParkerMP.Thanks
Reply:I have a chiry 40 and love it, better then I thought it would be for the $$ and its small enough I put it on an over heaed rail system

Reply:HAHAHAHAHAHAI googled " Chiry Welding " and found this ......CHIRY(UNT) WELDING & CUTTING EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURE CO., LTD. is one of the earliest manufacturer of Inverter Welding & Cutting equipment. It is a High-tech company and specialized in developing, manufacturing and sales of products. Spring flowers and fall fruit, after the wind and rain course of 17 years, we have found the first brand in welding industry - CHIRY(UNT) and got the happiness of success. OK maybe its me ..... but what in gods name do " spring flowers and fall fruit " have to do with welding? If I have a problem and call them for support will they talk about " budding flowers and blossoming trees "

Reply:Well, I'm not Newfie, but I do have some input for anyone that's following this thread. Sorry this is so long. If you just want the overall impression and not the nitty-gritty, skip to the last couple of paragraphs I own the both the UNT 60A plasma cutter and the 200A ac/dc tig welder. I bought both of them from the previously mentioned otdeal.com in September '06, just before they took a big jump in price. They both came with a 5 year warranty and the repair center is in Mich. The plasma cutter was $950 and I bought 40 extra sets of tips for $205 at the same time. I had a feeling they would not be a commonly available item and I was right. I believe the tig was $1150 at the time I bought it and it came with the foot pedal control. I bought the plasma cutter first. I waited until I received it and had a chance to test it before I ordered the tig. At that price for a 60A unit, I was not expecting it to work like they said it would.I'm just a hobbiest(sp?) that was looking for the most bang for the buck. The 5 year warranty, the USA based repair center and the free shipping did help sway my decision. I know that there's no guarantee that the company will be around for 5 years, but even if they're around for the next 2 years, that beats any other warranty offer I came across. I couldn't seem to find any major manufactures that had more than a year warranty. Anyway, the point is to not have to use the warranty.First off, the company would do well to spend a couple more $'s on packaging their units. The shipping boxes are pathetic to say the least. Anyone who has bought anything in a box at Harbor Freight is familiar with the second rate cardboard they use. I took pictures as I opened the tig box since it was beat up badly when it was delivered. Luckily, both units appeared unharmed when I unpacked them and they worked fine when I got them fired up. As I said, I got the plasma cutter first. It's rated at 1.2" and I've personally cut 1" steel with it. I've got to say that I'm quite impressed with it's cutting ability! I've cut up two parts cars with it and my elbows did not miss the sawzall one bit! I did both cars without ever turning it up past 40A. I could lay the the torch at an angle and shave the 3/4" bolt heads off just like a gas torch would. At 40A, it had about a 3/4-1" flame? coming out the tip.The plasma tips are unique to UNT. At least I have not found any replacements anywhere else. They are fairly affordable at otdeal.com, but it would be nice to buy them locally. I am not impressed at all with the plasma torch itself! The design and quality of the components are not even close to what I've seen on Thermal Dynamics and other name brand units. The plastic on the body of the torch is not very durable. I've been very careful with the unit, but I did manage to crack the torch body. I dropped it about a foot once, but I would expect a shop tool like that to survive better. The brass fitting at the machine end is odd. It appears to be a simple gas fitting, but there is a copper lug(for lack of a better term) soldered inside. It has the main power wire crimped in the copper lug and that wire runs up the inside of the air hose. I bumped the fitting and broke the copper lug. I was rather irritated to find that the replacement torch had gone up from $80 to $185!!! In less than a month!!! I realize that $185 is still cheaper than most other replacement torches, but I wanted to kick myself for not ordering a spare to start with! One of the local welding supply places said they could replace the brass part of the fitting to the hose with no problem, but the copper lug inside was a new one on them. I could modify the machine to run a separate air hose and power wire and use a different torch, but with a 5 year warranty, I can't modify it for quite awhile. I have since modified my cart to have a guard in front that I've wire tied the cables to, to act as a strain relief. As for the tig, the consumables are hanging on the wall at my local Air Gas store, so that was a big plus since otdeal does not sell them. The tig torch has a similar "cheapness" to it that the plasma torch has, but I'm being careful with it and if I break it, I think I can replace it with a name brand unit with out any mods to the tig unit. It does seem to have all the power it's rated at. I'm not even a good amateur welder and I've managed to weld aluminum with it. I've melted a 1/8" tungsten into a nice ball when I cranked it up. Hmm...probably not something I should brag about I haven't played with it much, but the welding I have done with it has come out fairly nice. One of these days, I'll learn how to use all the pulse features and stuff. As for otdeal.com. I've got mixed emotions with them. They sent the cutter and the welder fast. I ordered the cutter on a thursday and I had it in hand the following friday. I got the tig order in a bit later and still had it within a week and a half. Those are the +'s. Their website doesn't reflect any of the discounts when you order which makes it a bit confusing. They don't have a number that you can call with questions, other than tech support and he doesn't know anything about the pricing. The tig showed up without the foot pedal. When I called Tech support, he gave me the number to the main guy behind otdeal. That guy was a bit hard to understand, but he was very accommodating and got things squared away for me. When I ordered the replacement torch, they sent me a used one(said it was "tested", but the tip was completely blown out) and again I called and got it squared away. I'm still waiting for the new torch to show up but he was thankful that I was willing to use the "used" torch in the meantime. They did give me a 15% discount when I ordered the torch, but the lack of communications is rather frustrating. At this point, I'm still trusting that a "new" torch is on it's way.At this point, I'm extremely pleased with how the equipment itself performs and as a hobbiest, I love that I got at least 50% more power for almost half the cost of the name brand units I was looking at. We'll see how fast my opinion changes when one of them dies! After hearing some of the war stories about ebay sellers, I think I've had a pretty good experience with otdeal.com. The plasma consumables are fairly cheap(+), but not readily avalible(-). Tig consumables are readily available(+). Both torches are fairly cheap and should be handled with care. I'd order a backup plasma torch with the cutter if you do buy one. If you're running a professional shop and are relying on either unit to make a living........I'd buy local and buy name brand!!! I don't imagine I'll ever be in a position where I couldn't "get by" if one of these was down for repairs. Again....sorry for the "book" but I hope it helps give some insight about the Chiry units....uummm...yes....these are Chiry units!
Reply:Well I'm expecting a new or repaired Cut40 tommorow. Hopefully it will arive.
Reply:This is an older thread so I don't know if anyone will see this. I bought a Dayton on Ebay from Paper2Production.com in March 2006 and when they finally delivered one in August it was D.O.A. Today I got another one from them. Out of the blue, in fact I had given up and started saving for a Miller. It is a green 40amp that the manual calls a Parker Plasma-tec 40D. I won't be able to hook it up until next weekend to see if it works. Reply:sorry to here your story, i hope the new one works for you, if you have already started saving up for a miller maybe ou should offer that one up on e-bay to get back some $$ and keep with the idea of the miller. i have had mine for a few years now and its been great, all i have done to it is add a foot controle but that was not needed just wanted. its hard to save up the $$ for a name brand when you see all the offerings on the net for 1/2 the price but well werth it when you get the new Miller insted of the unknown machine. and there seem to be an alfull lot of un-profesional people selling on the net. i think if i was going to try a no namer i would do it threw HF, atleast that way i have a store to threw it threw the front window of it they dont make the sale right on a bad cutter. also i think they have started carrying the consumables witch can be dificult to find for some of the off brands.good luck on your venture i hope all turns out well, although i dought the service will improve with these fokes. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:most multy voltage welder's and plasma cutters come without a plug because they do not know what you will be pluging it into, so rather than try to guess or suply many plugs they just let you get the plug that works for you. the miller DVI and passport are the exception to the roule as they come with interchangable plugs for 110V and 220V. nice option i think more should come that way but it would just raise the price and end up getting plugs you dont want in many cases.welcome to the board by the way. some of us here are a little... .. but most of us mean well. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:Hi I'm omo46gg;I've owned a Chiry Cut40 for about 4 years now. I severed half inch steel and smaller sizes with ease. Compared to BIG BLUE, all I will say is, it will cut. Can't say it's dross free, but you really have to set up the machine with proper air flow and power range to get best results. You have to do this though with any machine. For what it does, the price was right.omo46gg
Reply:I've owned a Chiry 40 for about four years now, and the only problem I had was I did not like the touch itself, so I replaced it with a better brand and found the machine much more useful. It doesn't wear out the consumables near as much as the original torch.
