Need some thoughts to get me going in the right direction on a drill press.I won't use it a whole lot, maybe once a week for instance.  mostly drilling 3/8 holes in 3/16 plate.  Then i do a 3/4 hole in 1/4" steel every once in a while. I've been doing it by hand and just getting tired of the drill grabbing and tossing me across the shop of that 3/4 hole.I have an ellis bandsaw which i use alot and justify the cost vs need etc.  I would buy the ellis drill if i really had a big need for a drill press.Instead i want a nice machine that want let me down that can handle this type work every once in a while.I looked at the Jets but thats all so far i wanted to get some good opinions first.Probably don't need to spend over $1k but thought i'd use that as a budget.thanks
Reply:Thats a HUGE budget for a drill press that just needs to be able to do that. my craftsman http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...2&blockType=G2 would do that for you. infact I just did 2 9/16" holes through 8 stacked 1/4" plates with it last night. did great. grabbed a couple times (chuck is preasure fit) just stopped the machine and it came right out. started her back up and stopped pulling so hard on the handle. worked just fine. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:X2 on the big budget, Ive put 3/4" holes in 1" steel with my $300 beauty from Lowes. Its made really well, just a rock solid and clearly well made machine. I say buy the $300 one, and then spend the rest of that on... A stickmate  a hobart 187, part of a plasma cutter, etc. I have no regrets about getting this beast:[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6GgKt2xZdI[/ame][Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:Well thats a good start, my concern was getting a vise clamping unit under the press  to hold what im drilling into instead of just having the flat small platform thats under the cheaper units. What do you guys do to hold your stock in place, or whats a good vise-type attachment to clamp on the platform.Anyways, looks like a normal run of the mill press will do fine for me i guess.  Any brands you guys recommend over others.
Reply:for that kind of money i would put some more money with it and look into a bridgeport mill..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:Leland Gifford if you are after a nice very HIGH quality drill press. Ebay has several at reasonable prices. I have a very large one that I pretty stole at auction. New these beautiful machines retailed for around $10,000. They are scraped perfectly and have a crank at the front of the table.Wonderful machines.Granthttp://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
