Reply:Ed Mac - I think readers were maybe confused because there was no explanation of what the thread is about. Now that we know it's a tool show, it's easier to follow along. How come you don't have 'em marked?Where are the Allen wrenches?I want a count of the Allen wrenches. At one time I thought it'd be nice to have the world's largest collection of the all-too-common Allen wrench. So I started picking 'em up whenever I saw 'em for sale cheap, which is everywhere used tools are sold. But eventually, like the Hunt Brothers and their silver quest, I realized that even as common and cheap as Allen wrenches are at every sale, I was not going to be able to corner the world's Allen wrench supply.  Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 09-08-2011 at 09:39 PM.
Reply:Ed, with the welding carts, it's cause they built them and they're showing off what they built.  Just showing us pics of a bunch of wrenches and crap (in serious dissarray I might add) in your tool boxes is really pointless.  I've got a ton of hand tools as well...what's the point in putting up a bunch of pictures of them?  Maybe if you had some explanations of any rare tools you may have that your average greasemonkey wouldn't have in his shop that'd be somethin'.  Like I have some 2" and larger box wrenches which were made by Caterpillar back in the 40's that my grandfather used to work on mining equipment...those are kinda rare and interesting at least.  That's why there's so much interest in the homemade tools thread and there isn't a show us your store bought tools thread --Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow

Reply:Ed Mac - You're misreading me. I was not putting you down whatsoever.Let's recap:I believe you were wondering why your thread didn't take off? I was explaining that I thought your thread didn't take off because of a lack of information in the early posts.I asked in all sincerity why your tools weren't marked, for theft protection. The Allen wrench part is a joke. Remember, tool set sellers  used to "pad" tool quantity numbers with Allen wrenches?Everybody who acquires miscellaneous tool sets has lots of Allen wrenches, and I'll bet that you do too.. Yes, I did round up a serious pile of Allen wrenches.Hope that clears it up.Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 09-08-2011 at 11:41 PM.
Reply:I'd flip out. I can't stand messy tool drawers. When I need a tool I like to know exactly where it is so I don't waste time looking for what I need. This is messy for me.
Reply:Personally, I've tried on several occations to organize my tools. Currently have multiple tool boxes specifically for one type of tool, wrenches, screw drivers, etc. but for the life of me, thats as close as I can get to having them stay organized. and once they're organized and I start using them again, it's hell if I can get them back where they belong. luckily, I'm the type that remembers where everything is, even if it's not where it's "supposed" to be.There are no problems. Reply:I keep my tools very neat and organized too, except I have one drawer for "just getting it off the floor/bench" when that drawer gets full I put it all back into it's designated organized drawers...
