LINCOLN POWER MIG 180C verus MILLER MILLERMATIC 180Hi Group,Can anyone give me some insite on these two welders?Looking at purchasing one or the other and wanting to know if someone out there has some knowledge on either of these units/recommendations?Just need something for smaller projects that my stick welder isn't the best at.Thanks
Reply:I'm hearing that Miller's Autoset feature is fantastic.I'm hearing that Lincoln's spool has lots of issues. From Lincoln's website, their quality seems more heavy duty than Miller. Can anyone share their more experienced opinions on the two choices? Can someone tell me more about Lincoln's spool issues? Can someone explain more about the Autoset vs. manual?I'm a new welder. I'm told the Autoset feature would be best. But I know nothing about the two machines. I don't need something dumbed down, and don't mind learning. From my understand, I can use the Autoset on the Miller, and on the Lincoln, I have to look at a chart and manually dial in the settings. Manually setting the machine doesn't seem difficult to warrant a special Autoset feature.Thoughts?
Reply:The Miller Autoset is for those folks who desire to mig weld while texting on their cellphone.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!

Reply:I have the lincoln 180c and spool gun. It has worked well and been used a lot. Initially, I had several quality control problems. Customer service took care of everything, though downtime sucks. The autoset feature would be nice. There are no awards for setting the machine manually, so why not get a machine that takes the fiddling out. However, one should not be lost if manual adjustments are necessary.
Reply:The Miller has a better/cheaper spool-gun and the Lincoln is just a small Lincoln. Meaning it will always be good for a very long time. Potted boards are nice in the Lincoln, if you want to keep dust tracking under control. The feed roll setup is driven on both wheels on the Lincoln. Another nice feature. Smaller case makes it easier to move/store too. Nothing wrong with the Miller because it works well but so does the Hobart machines that are much simpler overall. I do prefer the Hobart in arc quality over either the Lincoln or Miller. All are real nice though. Pick a color and be happy.
