A friend wants to sell me his welder that he got for christmas a few years ago. He tried it once or twice...His wife bought it at lowes for 5 or 6hundred.I'm ready to replace my junky chicago electric and was looking at a miller for like $850.My question is, should I just pick this up instead. I looks much nicer than my chicago electric and if so, whats it worth...$400 bucks? Looks like its missing the sheilding tip. Dont know what else. Whats everyone think? I dont see this model on ebay.
Reply:That is a Fluxcore nozzle- protects the tip from all of bbs when using FC.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:FYI. I think one post was sufficient....
Reply:I would probably offer 350.00 -- about half the $$ of a new machine.Does he have the regulator ? If not then 300.00Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Machine looks like it's in good shape. With the cart and all the gas equipment, I'd say 400 is decent.
Reply:350 sounds about right. i would pay that even without a regulator
Reply:Well, after I posted to the Lincoln forum I thought it might not be the best one to get the most responses. I know, from my own patterns, that I only visit forums that I'm currently interested in and the Lincoln forum may not be as widely read as the more general forums. I weighed the consequences of cross posting, tried to only post a link back to the Lincoln forum and not repeat the question...that way those who were interested in answering would be aware of my question and those not would not be subjected to the information. I apologize to those affected negatively by my cross posting.
Reply:Thanks for all the replies....Since I don't know a lot about welders, and I've always had intermittent problems welding with my Chicago electric, should I possibly pass on this welder and get something with more features (miller 180 auto is what I was looking at before this came along). that would be about 850 or so but since I'm moving up from bargan basement (chicago electric) I was thinking of making sure I get something high quality this time....
Reply:If I could get this one for 350.00 or 400.00 I would go for it. Lowe's carries all the tips you would need for the Lincoln at a reasonable price. Unless you are ready to buy a tank of gas to go with it, I wouldn't worry too much about the regulator. If he only used it a few times and stored it well, I would think the above price would be a bargain, especially the 350.00 price.

Reply:Well, I shot my buddy a price of $350 (told him I did some research on the web and this seemed like a good offer). He immediately quipped back "go buy it from them then" Think I offer him 400 (he does have the stand) and if no go then just pick up the MM180 I was aiming towards in the first place. Reply:Looks like I'm getting this bad boy for 400 bucks...He may or may not have the MIG shield attachment for the gun...Can someone describe or show me a picture of what I need to buy? Does it screw on or snap on after I unscrew the flux core spatter shield adaptor?
Reply:Home Depot, Lowes and Sears should have what you need.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Like they said in Dances with Wolves Good Trade. If you are using gas the shield will be copper colored and if it is for flux core it will be black. It will screw on after you screw in the tip. I have the Lincoln 180. I think you will enjoy your new purchase. The stand probalby saved you 400.00 if you tried to build your own. We usually make them way too big.
Reply:OK so it just screws on in place of the black shield one that is there now..I can really tell a difference using this welder compared to my old chicago electric but I really like the looks of the gas VS the flux core. It just seems smoother and less spattery and just a better way to go overall... |
