So I just ordered an Everlast PowerArc 160STH, I know, it's not a Miller or Lincoln. But this is my first welder and I really wanted a TIG. So my question, I only plan on building stuff with 1.5x1.5x1/8" square tubing, maybe 2x2x1/4", mainly 1/8" wall square steel tubing though. This welder should suffice right? Thanks for the help, just want to get my feet wet, then I will buy a Red or Blue -Ram
Reply:1/8" yes. 1/4" no.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:You can honestly weld 1" with that tig, it will just take more passes and some heat.Like mentioned though it will do the 1/8 fine in one pass, the 1/4 will need two passes or three on certain joints. You may get away with a single pass on 1/4 on a outside joint.Either way if you are pushing the machine to full output all the time you will be waiting for duty cycles and probably even hitting thermo limit on the machine quite often.
Reply:Its going to be for stands, so small bursts of welding the joints. Figured 1/4" would probably require two or three passes. Thanks go all the help guys!Ram

Reply:yup duty cycle and make more passes...  I passed a 3G 3/8 plate tig test on a maxstar 150 ran great  many many many many many passes
Reply:I have welded 1/4 or more multiple times with my little lunch box 140, use a little preheat on heavier stock, multi-pass is no problem..never hit the D/C either as far as I know....wish I had waited/known they were working on a h/f 160 amp model..I def would have bought that one instead...Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st
Reply:Thanks guys! Any issues with sheet metal? Was going to get a mig, I'm restoring a '56 Bel-Air, but if. Can get by with this tig then I'll just use this, or borrow my friends Lincoln 140 mig. Reply:Originally Posted by joshuabardwellFor what it's worth, I TIG 1/8" wall tube regularly with my PA-160STH, and I have yet to hit the thermal limit. I spend enough time with fitup and etc... that it just doesn't get there. Granted, I'm probably working around 110-120 amps, so I'm not right at full output.

Reply:Well Guys, I'm finally going to try welding with this thing. Quick Question. What settings should I use for 1.5x1.5x1/8 wall tubing(ie. filler rod, amps, etc?). I was thinking 3/32 filler w/ 1/8" tungsten rod?ThanksRam
Reply:1/16" or 3/32" filler and electrode. About 120 amps.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
