Well i was surfing craiglist and found what looks to be a deal so i brought itStill have 3 more years of hydro left on tanks avgAre there different types of valves on these tanks? whats a good cutting  kit to get to match these tanks?
Reply:Depends. O2 is pretty much a standard CGA 540. Acetylene can be one of 4. A CGA 200 is the valve on the small 10 cf MC cylinders of acetylene. A CGA 520 is the ones used on the next size up the B cylinders. A CGA 510 or CGA 300 are found on the larger cylinders. The CGA 300 has a male fitting on the cylinder valve. The CGA 510's are the same valve with a female thread used with propane. You'd need to look at the valves on the cylinders and see what you have. Most valves also have the CGA number on them so it's easy to determine what you have. With an acetylene cylinder that size, you can use a fairly good sized torch. Victor, Harris, Smith all have a number of options. For cutting I prefer a dedicated cutting torch vs a "combo" torch. One thing to note, You use about 4-5 cf of O2 for every 1 cf of acetylene. Those little 100 cf o2 cylinders won't last long.  MY 75 cf acetylene runs dry just about at the same time I run out of O2 using a 282 cf cylinder. So I can exchange both at the same time. If you heat or weld, you run at roughly 1 to 1 Acet to O2..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:The valves should have markings on them. If memory serves oxy is 540 and acet is 300. See ifmyou can read the markings.Should be pretty standard.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Thanks, DSW. We were typing at the same time.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Ok thanks for all the help guys ill look at the valve today. it was pretty dark when i was looking at them yesterday.yea i was thinking about trying to trade in for a bigger O2 bottle as that empty and the acetylene tank still has 800 psi in it
Reply:Note that around here, large acetylene cylinders like that are all rental/lease cylinders. Same goes with larger O2 sizes. You may find that you may be better off with a smaller O2 cylinder that you own, vs a bigger one you need to pay rental or lease fees on.
