Hey folks, brand new here, found you through a google search. I just got a new Lincoln 175 HD today and cant manage to make it work. When I turn it on the fan comes on like normal and the gas flows like normal when the trigger is pressed. However the wire motor wont engage I guess you can say. It makes the normal click sound when you press the trigger but the motor doesn't turn. I made sure I had the wheel on correct and set for the correct wire and even took it off and tried it. Still nothing. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Tom
Reply:Welcome to the forum Tom.Obviously it sounds as if everything is working as it should with the exception of the wire feed motor.  I know - thanks for telling you something you already know.  The click sound is the main weld contactor closing.Where did you purchase the unit?  On-line or local supplier?  Being new the first thing you need to do is contact the seller or Lincoln Customer Service for direction.  It could be as simple as a loose connector as a result of shipping.  If I had to guess I'd be looking at the Control PC Board plug J1 but you probably don't want to do anything more that a quick check of all the connectors without manufacturer's authorization.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Awesome, thanks for the tips. I did pull the cover and everything looks connected.... I bought it online, to make it better it was Ebay. It is a brand new unit from what I can tell.  I did contact the seller through email and within 5 minutes my phone was ringing.  That was kind of comforting, just that he wants me to pay the shipping back.  I am kind of worried, because I bought it on Ebay, that Lincoln wont help me out.  What do you guys think? Thanks,Tom

Reply:Long shot but are you sure you have 240v at the outlet?I know of 2 cases so far where this was the problem- one from this board and one  a while back on the Hobart board.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:I believe it was and individual seller. The reason I say that is that it doesn't look like a business page but he has sold multiple units.  I would hope the plug has the required voltage.  It is only about 1 1/2 feet from the dedicated breaker on the main panel. I will give them a call tomorrow and pray.  Shouldn't I be able to spin the wire control motor by hand like any other electric motor?  If I remember right I couldn't spin it when I tried.  I wonder if its froze up some how. Otherwise, what kind of money could I be looking at to repair it.  I wouldn't think the board is bad, everything else works, just the motor doesn't engage.  Thanks again,Tom

Reply:OK I called Lincoln and they said the unit is under warranty.  Thank god! I dropped it off at a service center so we will hear the diagnosis soon. Will keep you folks posted.  Thanks for the help too!Tom
Reply:So, I just got a call from them.  She told me the motor gear as well as the board are burnt up.  Can someone explain to me how the heck a brand new unit can be burnt up like that.    Ohh well, it sounds like they are taking care of it at least.Tom

Reply:Ouch,  that must have been a great experience. Kind of like when I decided to bog my angle grinder down with my finger, that was pure stupidity though. haha So I dont know a whole lot about the 3 phrase stuff you are talking about.  What exactly do you mean by that. I just have to add here that I am glad I found this site.  There is a wealth of knowledge and information here! Thanks,Tom

Reply:Ok, so here's the latest news.  Lincoln sent the service center a new motor and board, it still didn't fix the unit.  So Lincoln said they are taking the whole unit back and sending me a refurbished unit.  I'm wondering about the refurbished unit...  What can I expect from it? Is it going to last as long as a new unit? Is it even going to look new? Thanks,Tom
Reply:The unit will be brand new for all intensive purposes, no scratches, no dents, as covers would have been replaced.Actually you won't notice a difference other than it works like it should.
