cell door hanger bracket fix

this job is a recurring theme at work. these doors take lot's of abuse so the spot welds that hold the door to the locking device tend to break over time. the first thing is to grind the dozen layer's of paint and bondo from the door. next is cutting the hanger bracket down so i can get a decent weld on it and removing the sheet metal skin of the door using a cut-off wheel. Reply:next is welding the skin of the door to the top support rail and clamping the hanger bracket to the bench and door and welding with 3/32 7018. after it cooled i fit up a sheet metal cover plate to hide the space between the support rail and skin of the door. i welded that with 3/32" 6010. Reply:Doc those riding with electric motors or pneumatic actuated?  The pneumatic systems really slam the door around.  The electric versions just shear the pins.  You find much peanut butter of other substances stuffed in the doors?
Reply:ak, in some of the other facilities on the island there are a few but not many air actuated doors/gates. the majority are electric and work with a sliding gear rack system originally made by southern steel or willo products. we see lot's of paper stuffed into any openings not big enough to hide contraband. chewing gum is discouraged here because it usually ends up jammed into the key ways of the locks. steve; here's the pictures showing the doors as they hang in the cellblocks. in the bottom pic you can see the food and hand cuff hatches that i designed and fabricated for our most recalcitrant guests. btw, neither of those guy's are me.
