Welding Aluminum

I am more a hobby and farm welder but i would like to make a tube rack for my boat and was wondering if i could weld Aluminum 3003 alloy to Aluminum 6063 alloy and have good strength without cracking .I am goint to use a lincoln 140 with spool gun.Thanks for any advice.KenLast edited by John K.; 10-18-2015 at 10:29 PM.

Reply:As mentioned I wouldn't bother with that machine. Alum is a great heat sink and requires a lot more power to weld than steel does. Mig alum is a hot process so it's poorly suited for thin alum. To mig 1/8" alum you usually need to max out a 230v 180 amp class mig using a spoolgun..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Thanks for the help I have a 230v welder but not setup for spool gun, I will probally go with stainless.
