i am looking at buying a small mag drill and would like some feed back. i have looked at the Jancy's, Hougan's, and Evolution's. price is not a major concern but i don't see a large need for one but just want one to add a little more diversity. has anyone used or own the Evolution Bora 2800? or Evo mustang 3500. the 3500 is about half the price of the of the Hougan 904 by the time you figure in that the 3500 comes with a 6pc set of cutters. the Evo 2800 comes with a 6pc cutter set and a twist drill chuck and adapter and is about $100 less than the Evo 3500 but only drills to 1 1/8" versus 1 1/2". since i don't do bridge work or high rise work the 1 1/8" would be more than enough. i own 2 Evo saws and if the quality is as good on the drill as the saws i would be happy. i would appreciate and insight. thanks.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw

Reply:I have the milwaukee compact it will do up to 1 1/2" that I have used for several years I have ran a hougan 904 but they have a kill button on the magnet that makes it difficult to drill tight truck frames and pipe because the magnet isnt 100% in contact. The milwaukee does not have that safety kill button so you can start drilling without the magnet being fully attached. but I have had it come loose and destroy the bit and bend the arbor one time when I got overly stupid and had less than a quarter of the magnet holding. I have not used those two mentioned but just something to think about, if there is one, were is the safety button located if your going to be drilling in miserable tight areas.Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Reply:I've used both a Jancy Lil slugger and the big *** Milwaukee. I preferred the Jancy because of the size and weight. The Milwaukee was really tough to position on anything other than flat. It was one heavy SOB.My name's not Jim....

Reply:check out milwaukees site, I had the big *** milwaukee model, sold it & bought the compact milwaukee unit & find it very easy to handle.
Reply:thanks guys. i have never used a mag drill. does the Milwaukee use the same shank as the other small mags? 3/4" Weldon. not sure but i thought i read it uses a different shank which would make it hard to get cutters in my area without ordering them. the only 2 locations local that sell mags stock Jancey and Hougen which the Evo will accept there cutters. the Evo 2800 is $499 and the 3500 is $599 both will 6 pc cutter sets. since the amount of use i will be using the drill makes these prices more doable than $1200+ for others and i could use the extra cash for more bits and cutters. big question is are the Evo's quality and reliability worth stepping into?225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:I would get the special rubber-armored, aluminum/carbon-fiber rib-saving one, if I were you. (In all seriousness, I've only used the big Milwaukees, and they're pretty dang handy. Not handy enough for me to own one yet, though.)

Reply:cl has a post in Sacramento for a Jancy i believe it's a 101. the guy says firm on $675 and in new condition. if it wasn't 100 miles away i would go look at it and hope it isn't the like new one in the picture in the post lol. the pic makes it look like it was beat against the torpedo belt of a battleship for a few days. ya gota love how folks rate tool condition. he also is selling 5-6 cutters that are used but sharpened for over new price. the handful of power tools i have bought used i bought from friends that use but don't abuse their tools.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
