I asked this in another thread where the saw was mentioned but got noanswers:The cryo saw was mentioned:http://pass.partsmaster.com/WEBIMAGE.../2007/EVO3.WMV.Is this saw blade something different to the "carbide saws" that are usually spoken about ? I haven't used a carbide saw before, but the cryo saw really seams to cut steellike butter - at least to me it seemed almost "too good to be true".I have a plasma and a sawzall (both of which I'd like to make some guidesfor as the cuts are not as precise as I'd like them to be) but felt the cryo sawmay be even better  for precision cutting (especially in thinner material) since I don't have room for a bandsaw (and it may be a better option than a port-a-bands sawas it can make long cuts). The only negative aspect I can imagine would bethe steel flying around the room as you're cutting compared to a bandsaw.
Reply:Your link isn't working for me.  But the file name, EVO3, suggests it's an Evolution cold-cutting saw, which uses a carbide blade like any other cold cut saw.  I have a Milwaukee 14" cold cut saw, and love it.  There is no real danger from metal flying around.  The shavings sweep up like sawdust.Jack OlsenMy garage website

Reply:me spammer - nah I like ham - I'm a hammer excuse the problem with the link - it was in this thread post #5:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=61306There's a video that opens up - yes, looks like it's the EVO saw you mention.OK, you need a slower speed high/constant torque saw for steel but I was mainlyasking about the blade - is this blade revolutionary in how well it cuts/lasts  compared to othercarbide blades ?Who makes this EVo saw / where can it be purchased - I ask as I saw iton the partsmaster web page but later I found a web page in UK which pointsto :http://www.evolutionpowertools.com/ in USALastly, on the partsmaster web page, they mention separate saw bladesfor different materials - thin steel, thick steel, stainless, but on Youtubethey talk about the Evolution saw using one blade (as a newbie I know about using separate welding brushes for alu,SS, steel - are you supposedto do the same with sawblades/drill bits etc.?Last edited by vjeko; 10-23-2011 at 01:04 PM.
Reply:Carbide blades and bits have been used to machine steel for years. Nothing super revolutionary about the concept. The main difference is the speed a wood blade and a steel balde is run at. There are more and more coatings and carbide types out on the market now than there were years ago, but the big thing is still matching the speed with the cutting tool..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:you do have to use the blade designed to match the material. it has more to do with tooth configuration and number of teeth. if you try to use a steel blade for aluminum it will load the blade. aluminum blade i believe has fewer teeth and a different arrangement and if used on steel will be to aggressive and you will no doubt destroy the teeth and possibly eat a few of them. standard steel and thin steel have to do with the number of teeth and the smoothness of cut. i use the standard steel on everything. you just don't try to race through thin steel (1/16"-). cut slower is all. they do have an all purpose blade which i have on my evo rage 4 saw that will fit the circular saw that allows you to cut steel, aluminum and wood with the same blade. since i just got that saw a couple months ago i can't comment on the life of the blade as opposed to the dedicated blades. but the AP blade is cheap enough (22.50) life of it is not a major factor.  the saw has a built in chip trap that catches most of the chips so don't forget to empty it. Evo saws are a British company and i believe it is made in England. the saw i posted the pic of is the newest version of the saw and i do have the earlier version that is made by evo with a different marketers name. the older version was impossible to cut on a straight line  without using a guide (because the guard hid the line) which was a pain to set up compared to the new version saw that has a different guard that allows you to easily see the blade cutting on the line.Last edited by jbmprods; 10-23-2011 at 02:28 PM.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:It all depends on the quality of cut and how important a 'no fail' cut is to you. When you are making the final cut on a fine piece of cabinetry, you can't have a coarse carbide blade ripping the he!! out of your piece of wood. Heck, even with the finest of wood saws you'll need different blades for different cuts and different woods. Same goes with metals of various types, shapes and thicknesses. Then add tile and masonary to the mix. Unless of course they consider hacking in two and cutting in two in the same category. Anybody that tells you you can use the same blade for all cuts isn't being completely objective. I could use an ax to cut molding too but that wouldn't be the tool I would recommend. However, it looks like the Evolution folks are trying to capture another segment of the consumer market. Also looks like a good saw. I don't know why you couldn't use a metal cutting saw to 'cut' wood or other things as long as you give some thought to matching the blade to the cut. If I was looking into a new general use hand held saw I'd have to consider that one, maybe. BTW the guy was lucky to get through that demo without a mini catastrophe.Last edited by Sandy; 10-23-2011 at 02:26 PM."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:you can Use the steel circulars on wood but you have to remove the clean out compartment cover or it will load with saw dust in the first few cuts. the saw i pictured comes with an attachment that you can put in place of the cover so the saw dust is blown out. i have a half dozen wood circulars and told my boys i better not catch them using my steel saws on their wood projects.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:i would like to add that if you look at the pic i posted you can see that the blade is very easy to change were as on a lot of including the earlier evo you had to remove the whole side cover to be able to change the blade. it's not hard to change the blade on the other designs just a little more time consuming.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw

Reply:Send CryoGal on here a message. She is a rep for Partsmaster and she knows her stuff. She was out at my place to let me sample some of their products few weeks back.i was impressed with everything she had. I'm also looking to buy their dry cut saw. She didn't have the Cryo blades with her but I sampled a couple Cryo treated drills and definitely a difference, even compared to TIn drills.AlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:It's in my car now whenever you want to try it out Al, we're bout due for some shop time anyway aren't we?Everyone who buys them loves them, in fact just had a guy come back and buy the chop saw for his hobby shop too.  I wish I had kept track of the cuts with my blade, I will for sure next time...but it's been in there for 6 months and I let anyone who will cut with it use it and she's still goin strong.  The last guy cut 1/2" plate.  The steel doesn't fly that bad and the cut is nice and clean..even beveled if you like.  If I go out to Al's I'll video it for you if Al isnt camera shy.Check me out on Facebook, you'll like it!     Post pics of your welding or metal project and win a Cryotreated Rotabroach set valued at ~$250!

Reply:My only complaint about my Evo2 Saw is that the adjustable gate is ****ing terrible.Im going to have to bring it to a machinist to get the damn channel for the adjusting pin machined properly as i cant swing the gate to 45 degrees.
Reply:I remember when the portables first came around, they were huge and looked like a 2 man saw.I saw 2 Iron Workers using it to cut steel grading and for what they were doing, a zip wheel would have been just fine. They said they just got it and wanted to try it out.I don't remember them having all the adjustments that they have now days though.Semper FiJesus may have been a Carpenter, but his dad was a Millwright" A grinder and a can of paint, will make a welder what he aint' "I've done so much, with so little, for so long, that now I can do anything with nothing!
