Should bring in the other half todaySplain it all Monday"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I like it already! I've never seen one of the S-series with the gas engine in it. I learned to drive vehicles that you couldn't see the front wheels on, on Chevrolet 7500's when I was 12 years old; they all had gas 366's in them. We also had an old 1966 Int'l Loadstar 1600 with the 304 in it.....I wasn't strong enough to turn the non-power-steering wheel until I was 13. I think that truck is still floating around on the farm somewhere in a semi-running state while the Chevys are long gone. Very peppy (unloaded) for what it was.Last edited by tbone550; 08-02-2014 at 07:30 AM.

Reply:We have 3 1969 international loadstar 1600 trucks...345 cu inch gas hogs...One has a reefer box, the other a 24' slide back.... And lastly is a big fuel truck...One is yellow, other is red, and the other is orange.

Reply:I thought I'd have everything lined up this weekend, but it didn't happen This truck is gonna be chopped, and a 4-5yd dump bed installed. I have some serious dirt work that needs doing here on the place. So, on Saturday I go hotfooting it up to Missouri..........Conway, Missouri to be specific. Nice little town.I'd found what looked to be a good dump bed on Craigslist, and decided to buy it after talking to the seller on the phone. SO I MAKE THE 500MI ROUND TRIP "Oh yeah, it's a nice bed I removed from a truck that we've put out of service" Complete with hoist $750The pics on CL didn't do this gem justice The cab protector was missing, and it had a 8" twist on the body A bonifide piece of ****.So it's back to good ol' Oklahoma...............with empty trailer in tow, out of pocket about $200 in travel expenses To make it the PERFECT trip, I came very close to being involved in an accident on the Southeast side of Tulsa on the return trip. There's a long sharp curve on I-44 that regularly claims new victims, and it did just that a few minutes before I arrived at the turn. Some poor guy in a newish Dodge pickup, towing a newish minivan strapped to a trailer.I figure he probably started swaying in the curve, and either couldn't correct it, or over corrected.......................Upshot of the whole deal............he had a very bad day.The pickup had rolled, and was about 50yds further back on the highway. Looks like the trailer maybe flipped 3 times by the looks of the tire marks. I didn't see any bodies laying around, so I figure maybe nobody was seriously hurt. The OHP hadn't arrived yet. Helluva day for somebodySo, at this point, unless I can find a suitable used bed, gonna have to make one"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:More details on the new truck. It has a good flatbed dump on it already, with a good hoist and wet kit.Double framed chassisThe old venerable 2spd rear endDue to the lower GVWR (24,000) it has hydrovac brakes Not many of these on the road anymoreFor a final settled on price of $1800 I can't really complain. The brakes don't work, but they ought to be an easy fix I hope. Just throw money at any problem, and it goes away"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:The flatbed was some sort of jury rigged afterthought I guess, it's got one BIG overhang at the rearThe hoist frame had been modified to accept the new bed, but the fix is relatively easy.Gonna be a matter of moving the drive axle forward, then chopping what's left of the resulting overhang behind the axle. The frame is pristine, Thank God, no welds, and no excessive holes to interfere with an axle move."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I thought the other half was gonna be like thisor maybe this
Reply:Personally I'd just keep the bed as is. Maybe shorten the rear over hang so it'll dump better. Build a good dump gate and you're done. I moved a fair amount of dirt with a similar bed. Just don't over fill it and be careful dumping rocks in it. As for the brakes good luck. I've hated those systems since spending a month trying to get one bled and working right on a fire truck in Germany. As for the wreck looks like way to small a trailer. Really short coupled making for a bad towing situation.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:Samm, Unless you have a strong need for the dump bed, I'd just build some strong 2' or 2 1/2' sides for it, a dump gate and bolt some 3/4" plywood to the floor for protection against large rocks. Just center the load over the axle and you'd be able to haul all the dirt/rock the truck can carry. Reply:Well the SUV stayed lashed to the trailer... A lot of the roll overs like that I've seen, the vehicle separates after about the 2nd roll since most times they are just held on with light straps, or they use the cheesy tie down loops that are stock on those smaller trailers..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
