This is a trailer I built for a great customer by the name of Gene Brown. I built several trailers and a truck bed for him and also did some customizing on a couple of his boats. This trailer is 108" wide and 20' long with a 2' beaver tail. It has 2 7,000 lb. torflex axles with electric brakes and 16" tires. Main rails are 6" extra heavy channels and the xmembers are extra heavy 3" chanels. The deck is 3/16 diamond plate. I put the x-members on alternating facing front and back and put a spacer between all of them that the backs were facing each other. This kept all of them solid so they didn't flex and when the deck got welded on it basically made the main frame 9" tall so it was much stronger. The stake pockets are 4" channel and the rub bar is 3" x 1/4 flat. The jack is a 7,000lb drop leg Bulldog and the coupler is 2 5/16 bulldog. The fenders are about 7" tall and are designed to drive over. These are all the pics I have of this trailer. There is an interesting tail to go with this trailer that I will add after. Thanks for looking and commenting. Attached Images
Reply:Nice trailer!
Reply:After I did this trailer a friend of Gene's saw it and wanted one, so I built him one. When I bought the materiel I got a discount on some channels that someone else ordered and didn't take that were very  heavy 7"ers. Gene found out that his friend and heavier channels on his trailer and came back to me and had me build another trailer the same as the first with the exception that he wanted 8" beams. LOL.

Reply:The dude in the background was trying REALLY hard not to be in the pic. LOL. My mig welder is a Miller Vintage with a Miller Spoolmatic 30a spool gun.

Reply:I like the two trailers you've shown.  The story about the frames is funny - my brother would do that  Just started working with aluminum about a year ago or so myself. - I like it so far.Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

You can take them old harsh welding MM 250's & chuck 'em in the garbage. I had an old SCP 200 C & boy did it weld sweet. Shoulda never got rid of it.. Got an XMT now tho, wouldn't want anything else. They look really well put together. Thanks for sharing!

Reply:Fenders should be strong enough to stand on at the very least. IMO they should all be strong enough to drive over. but that's just me. but standing on them shouldn't ever be an issue. There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:That is a really beautifull trailer, have you built many in aluminum and if so have you had any problems with cracking. I plan to build a dump trailer, dual axle , around 10,000 gross capacity. I had thought a steel undercarriage/ frame with an aluminum dump box to save on weight and painting all the time. It would be real sweet in all aluminum as most of these trailers come in around 3500-4000 lbs empty.  I built a custom flatbed for my F350 and no problems in 4 years, but a dump trailer may be a different story."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400

Reply:Nice! Any pictures of construction? I've been thinking about making my own car trailer to custom fit my needs and would love to make an aluminum one to show off my aluminum capabilities.
Reply:No construction pics. Sorry. When I get to the next one I will tho.
Reply:I've also wanted to build an aluminum car trailer for quite some time now. Time to do it seems to be nonexistent though.
Reply:Have you ever built aluminum boat trailers?  I'm tempted to build one (welded) but I've been told that bolted is better and many welders wouldn't even consider it unless an engineer did the design work.  I've seen many on the web and they seem fairly straightforward.  I built my own galvanized steel trailer 25 plus years ago and it's still working great.  I know alum. is a whole different story but I wanted to hear your opinion please.thanks,CDad
Reply:I don't see why not, except for price. I've never seen a small boat trailer, but I have once they reach tandem and tri-axle type. The only reason why not would be cost.Yeah, I know, but it'll be ok!Lincoln Square wave 255Miller Vintage mig30a spoolgunThermal Dynamics Pacmaster 100xl plasmaSmith mc torchEllis 1600 band saw
