been looking for a decent machine & came across this on local craigslist, it is in real good cond & came with, air cooled torch ( nothin fancy ) foot pedal & a regulator.  got him to take 200.00 off the asking price of 1500.00 so i grabbed it. got it set up this afternoon & gave it a try, have no filler material yet, & the torch is rather small. really no tig experience just learning so any criticism is welcome. also was wondering if this machine will power my suitcase extreme? my powcon 400 smt has no output any more & will have to be looked at by someone more qualified than me. anyway heres a few pics                                                                           Bob Attached Images
Reply:You really need to clean the metal for tig,but other than that beads look good and a nice c-list score !!! What size torch came with the machine??Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st
Reply:Came with a  weld craft  150 amp torch, gonna try some more tomorrow after work, & clean material befor welding
Reply:Nice machine.  I bought the same machine off CL and love it.  For the price, I don't think you can go wrong.  It's so much more machine than you could get new for a fraction of the price.
Reply:Ordered some filler rod today, should have it thursday. Tried cleaning some scrap pieces with a flap disc before welding & really ended up with some nice results. I just can't believe the control you have over the puddle & the precision is unbelievable, I love this machine & i am eager to practice & learn more. It is definitely more machine than I will ever need but couldn't pass it up, had a little buyers remorse, but that left quickly after a few beads                   Bob

Reply:You also need to grind your tungsten as soon as you dip it. All that red powdery crap is from dipping your tungsten and not stoping to regrind. Get used to grinding the tungsten, you'll be doing it a lot. As far as if it will power your extreme suitcase, Do you have a VS or RC unit?  In theory, you could run a VS type suitcase from that in CC mode, but I doubt you would be happy with the results. You really need to run a suitcase off a CV power source to do mig. In CC your suitcase won't run short arc well at all. You might be able to run FC in spray in CC, but spray in overhead and vertical is a PITA. If you are not familiar with running suitcases off CC power sources like engine drives, I doubt you will be satisfied with the results. It's not like running one off a CV power source..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:kazlx i figured somebody would get a kick out of that, i just keep tellin myself its  an early xmas gift to myself,  weldmachine thanks & i would definately agree it is a great machine. dsw thanks for the tip on the powdery crap, i was trying to figure out what i was doing wrong, i have the v s suitcase, i finally got it dialed in pretty good combined with my powcon 400 smt & then no output on the smt. gonna have it looked @ after the holidays. i pretty much bought the syncro for tig welding, so i wont even bother trying the suitcase on it.                                          Bob
Reply:I just know how you feel, because it was the same for me.  That little bit of hesitation before you tell the guy you'll take it haha.
