1996 MustangNot much, but it'll be my first project with my fiancee. After this we can move onto our `68 Charger, had to junk our `71 Monte Carlo. They've all been sitting in a yard, so rust was present. Thrives stole the radiators off all cars. Off this car they also stole the starter, headers, and they tried to take the engine as well. Not much welding to do, but some metal fabrication maybe. It'll be modded pretty well. Unlike Dave, I'm not patient, so that aspect is gonna suck! Here's a pic of it now, I'll keep ya all updated as things progress.*insert welding gibberish here*                    Mandy

Reply:Ironically, we live in the country; its a double edged sword..you can get away with a lot when no one is around. They should've had some kind of protection/surveillance there. Lesson learned. We'll be getting a dog for our shop here very soon. Thanks for the offer :-) I bet your dog would LOVE it here, lots of wild animals come on our land.Yes, we figured it be good for our relationship and be a cool thing to do together.*insert welding gibberish here*                    Mandy

Reply:ls1taA '96 Mustang is Car Culture junk.Regardless of performance - stylistically - this is a Ford regret.Fix - the '68 Charger - and preserve your effort and money spent.Opus
Reply:You think I haven't  said to skip the Mustake and get going on the Charger?! Hello! Of course I'd rather have the Charger done! But, we have a good majority of the parts for the Ford already, has a decent engine with a 6k stall speed-that I'm sure some kid would go nuts for. After we put it on the lift and did a walk around, there was minimal rust. We already have the paint that we're gonna use for it and all the primer, etc. Really not going to have much put into it. This is more of a starter project for me, ya know to get my feet wet. I'm pretty positive he wouldn't let me touch the Charger-body work wise.  Dave's been in the Cavalcade of Customs and has won twice in the same year for his Honda's he made a quick flip on. He isn't some run of the mill car guy, especially when you have the head honcho at your work asking you to do paint work for him.*insert welding gibberish here*                    Mandy
Reply:Also, where I live Mustangs are pretty popular. That years look is what I mostly see, and we live next to 2 high schools. I don't think it'll be a problem making money off it.*insert welding gibberish here*                    Mandy
Reply:Makes a big difference if you are doing the project to flip or keep.
Reply:It was originally supposed to be for me, but I decided I'd rather get something else (STi). We're obviously not going to put top notch materials into it if we're doing a flip and sell.*insert welding gibberish here*                    Mandy
Reply:If you assign any value of your labor, I see you as already upside down into this job. Of course I'm basing my assumption upon the supplied photo. There are variants of the model of which are still worthy of the work needed as they will command the resale dollars, but a base model will not.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:Nah. Being able to spend time with Dave, doing something we BOTH LOVE, and working together to reach a shared goal is rewarding. Something to do in our spare time when we are bored. I don't see anyway that we are going to be "upside down" into this job.*insert welding gibberish here*                    Mandy
Reply:I'd rather be in the shop than a fancy dinner. The first night at his house, I rebuilt a cylinder head for him. His expression when I was finished...priceless!*insert welding gibberish here*                    Mandy
Reply:It's a statement based solely upon your statement to sale after the completion of the project. The realized sale dollars will not equal your output of labor is any value is assigned to that. I'm quite pleased you are gaining from the experience whether personal or professional and make no attempt to slight anything. I however turned my interest and passion for rebuilding/repairing wrecked automobiles and heavy trucks into a means to fund my wife's, my two kids, and one grand daughter, (so far) through four year college educations without debt. I've made no reference to myself as far as education as have always been "thick as a brick" between the ears, so college is a "no go" for me.An earlier reference to a 68 Charger would be a much more prudent project as those cars do have considerable value no matter the original construction or platform. Parts are also quite easy to source in the aftermarket. I still have my 68 Formula "S" Barracuda fastback which is completely original down to the last nut and bolt of which I've owned for 38 years. It's one of those projects for the future after retirement. Pretty certain my son was conceived in the back of that car so it firmly has it's place in the family.I do hope you enjoy your project, and prosper from it immensely. Not all gains have to be of monetary value. The auto body atmosphere is always changing and although not as profitable as in days gone by, it's still not a bad gig to earn a living at. Being able to stretch and repair your own vehicle while collecting retail rates for doing it is usually pretty good if you know what you're doing.Give it a go girl. The future is bright if you don't lose sight and remain hungry.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:Cool story, I spit out the coke I was drinking when I read where you son might've been conceived! That's so cool. Lucky women I might add! I've never done the dirty in a muscle car, haha!I'm sure I'll enjoy our project, and your absolutely correct about not all gains being monetary. My dream is to have my own hot rod shop, I'll only get there with experience and time; and I have both awaiting me. I have fire in my eyes and a dream that I'm chasing. :-)*insert welding gibberish here*                    Mandy
