I bought this today for a great price. I plan on sandblasting the sheet metal and repainting it. My question is can I still buy the metal plates on the front (range plate and selector plate)?
Reply:A couple of guys have one of these locally, they want a bit too much for it at the moment, it would be fun to redo if I had a cool way of getting new face plates.Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler
Reply:I've seen pretty clean plates on eBay.   Both the amperage and the polarity selector.   Not at a bad price either, you just gotta hunt.  I believe there are different polarity plates from different model years though.  Have you welded with it yet?  I've yet to find any machine with a comparable arc in stick.   Damn thing is just buttery smooth.
Reply:I welded with lit last night and it welds so smooth
Reply:Stumpfs has new plates for them. I think $50 for the amp range and polarity plates. You have to call - they are not listed on their website.
Reply:Phone #?

Reply:I'll have to get that info and call him, because my polarity is different
Reply:When you start cleaning it up you should start a new thread in the Lincoln section down the page here.  You will get more views and more help if you need it.  Lots of these roundtops on here and several cleanups / and restorations.
Reply:Here is my round top I purchased this spring.  Some before/after pictures, they are great welders. Reply:Very nice
Reply:Got the sheet metal off so I could inspect it and blow all the dirt and dust out, and found it to be manufactured in 1963. I tried to clean the plates, But looks like I need to order new ones
Reply:I hope to paint tomorrow if all goes well. Im thinking I might want to build a stand of some kind to get it off the ground and make it easier to adjust it. I could make some lead saddles to hang leads on. You guys got any thought or ideas?Last edited by Millwrightdude; 08-18-2014 at 07:33 PM.
Reply:A roll cart would sure be handy. Lincoln made a 3 wheeled cart for the round tops. Worked good for moving from point A to B, but lacked a place to hang leads. As you know, these things weigh in around #400 lb so pneumatic tires are not a great option.  Steel wheels if you can afford them or build them work great. It aggravates me to see leads all coiled up on top of a shiny new paint job on any welder so lead hangers are a must.
Reply:I went to Stumpf's several times while restoring my IdealArc and SA200 as they are only 70 miles from me. It's an amazing place and the employees are extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with. I am sure they will have a switch in their extensive inventory for your welderSteveMiller Dialarc 250 (1990)Miller Maxstar 140 STR (2003)Lincoln SA200 Redface Pipeliner (1966)Lincoln MP210 (2015)Victor and MECO torches

Reply:I just noticed that millwrigt's polarity switch is different that mine. His AC position is in the middle and mine is in the bottom. His is a 1963 and mine is 1974 I believe.  I wonder when this changed and when did they go from copper to aluminum on these machines or did they ever use aluminum in these?Sent from my iPad using TapatalkSteveLincoln IdealArc 250Lincoln SA200 1966 RedfaceSteveMiller Dialarc 250 (1990)Miller Maxstar 140 STR (2003)Lincoln SA200 Redface Pipeliner (1966)Lincoln MP210 (2015)Victor and MECO torches

Reply:Just need to install the on off switch. I cant get the polarity switch face plate, But can get the lower ones. I call stumps today the upper in not available. Im trying to decide if I want to get just the lower ones or just call it done.
Reply:Nice! What is the color name? And just get the lower plate.
Reply:Rustoleum Sunrise red
Reply:You certainly wasted not time getting it done. Are you going to build a cart or lead hangers for it now?Im a turbine millwright and this is the slow season. Work starts up next month. I want to build a cart that I can hang my leads on. Ive been looking for ideas.

Reply:Looks good!I think your polarity plate looks fine, though you could shoot them with some clear and see how they look. I did that with my old Linkwelder and it really sharpened up the plate (http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...n-AC180K-rehab ). Can use a small screw driver or dull tool to gently scrape the red paint off of the edge without scratching the metal or black. Also this place appears to have them, not quite identical but the switch positions look correct with your pic**** http://www.lincolncontrolplates.com/inc/sdetail/11815They also have the bottom plate, maybe a little pricey:****http://www.lincolncontrolplates.com/...il/11807/19327Regards,-JohnBEdit: I just noticed the polarity plate link that I provided is actually a decal, not a plate. I would probably stick with the original plate.Last edited by JB1253; 08-20-2014 at 12:04 AM.Reason: Correction
