OK guys, you havbe a rookie here, thanks to you guys i ended up with the TD 42, right out of the box,  spectacular cuts, until i get to something or other that causes the torch to go out.  If I repull the trigger it immediately relights, but often just for 2 or 3 seconds, and repeat -  on and off 10 times.  Eventaully I get back to a consistent arc.  I am assuming it is user error,  I'm learning as I go.  It seems like it is worse if the tip is not in contact with the surface I am cutting on.   I am cutting at 120 -  until i get the 220 line pulled.  i am putting in air at 90 psi!I don't recall ever seeing the DC indicator lit,  does that need to be lit? I grind of an area on the steel for the ground - to assure a good ground,  I put an in line water filter on the airline,  but so far, not alot of luck.  Anyone have any ideas for me?  And how do i tell a drag cut tip?  I have several different tips in the spares bag, all with part numbers, but i don't know which I shopuld be using? 9-0093 is drag tip,  9-0094  is standoff tip -  but the book identifies those a 40 amp tips,  got it -  9-0091 is what i need for standoff 20 amp - correct?OK on further research/comparison, it looks like it came shipped with a 40 amp tip,  so I swapped in the 20 amp tip -  do you guys think I am on the right track? Reply:Try turning your air pressure down to like 50-60psitackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:I believe the TD plasmas actually like around 70 psi.  I think mine has a sticker on the back with recommended pressure.  You may actually be blowing the arc out.My name's not Jim....
Reply:The CM 42 has an internal pressure regulator.  Ait pressure coming into the unit should be between 85-125 psi, according to the specs in the manual.  There is an indicator on the front panel that lights up when you have minimum adequate air pressure. There are three tips for the CM 42.  9-0091 and 9-0093 are drag tips.  The most visible difference between the drag and stand-off tips is that the drag tips have a little smaller front surface area, therefore less tip contacts the metal.  Drag tips are designed to get longer life when used for drag cutting, but the stand-off tip will also work when you want to drag cut.The DC indicator should be lit when you have an arc.  No DC light = no output power. If you are having problems with the arc going out, look at the AC light on the front panel.  It will likely be flashing.  The flash sequence is a code and there is a table in the operator's manual that tells you what the code means and what is the corrective action.
