Just a few pics I thought I'd share. All pics are of things I've built for or installed at food plants. I've really come to enjoying the heck out of this line of work - except the having to work weekends thing. Anyways, I've got tons of pics, but don't want to flood a thread in case it's not of interest.

Reply:Thanks. I'm going to upload a bunch of pics to Photobucket shortly. And just to clear up, that first pic was not my makings. That was sent to me to either "make work again" or use as a template to remake  a new one. LOL
Reply:Sink basins are all made from scratch. started as 14ga sheet. Radius brake for the corner radii, some trick milling to cut a sanitary pipe in half to for the divider top radius

Reply:Nice work!  Can't wait to see the rest.   What are all the requirements to weld food grade stainless?  I've heard you must have a stainless welding table top as to not contaminate the ss.  The reason I ask is that I had to turn down a food grade job the other day which is $ lost.  Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Reply:You do some really nice work. MORE PICS PLEASENice little cart for the MaxstarWhen your working in places like that, most of the time do you have the welder in the lift or have to run leads from an engine drive. When I was working in the mechanical trade, very few places had power close enough for us to run a portable unit.Last edited by Chris T.; 06-10-2014 at 07:35 AM.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:I'm intrigued by the sinks. How do you control the distortion on something like this?
Reply:Awesome ! I love clean work. At least you don't have to gown up there.   I did some stuff at Abbott Labs and it tokk longer to get dressed then to do the job. Great pics too.

Reply:This whole thread was brought on by sorting through 17 Gb worth of pictures and finally trying to organize them. So far I've got over 3 Gb of just pics from work. LOL

In that particular case, the pix were posted like five years ago & the wrong someone run across them! Guess dude wasn't aware of their strict no photography policy CYA # 1 bro

Reply:dcoffmanjr,Very interesting (and pretty) work you're doing.  I really enjoy looking at the kind of high quality craftsman ship you're putting out.
Reply:Here's some pics of the last major food plant related work I was involved with.  This place was built to make "malt" barley for breweries.  There were 6 of these germinating vessels at this place.   I probably spent around 2 months (10 hrs./ day, 6 days a week) up on that scaffold tig welding over head to seal the seams of those gore sections that make up that doomed roof.   Man, was I ever glad when that part of the job was done.
Reply:Holy crap. That is massive! I've not been a part of a job any where near that scale, but it looks like it could be fun (for a while anyway lol)Just found out im being shipped out to somewhere in Kansas the first week in July, then somewhere in Missouri the second week. Wife isn't exactly thrilled.... lots of work coming into the shop now. :-DSent from my SGH-T999L using TapatalkThat tank looks an awful lot like a sewage clarifier. One of our welders had to weld on pipes and a catwalk over its contents (hot sewage). He was glad to be working back in the shop again once that job was done. Reply:More Pics! LOLI've been sorting through literally 38.8 gigabytes of pictures and sorting them out into something resembling an organized mess. Keep finding pics that I've taken from work and job sites. So here's a few more In the middle of building a conveyor onsite. See also, working off of random stands assembled into a makeshift tableSome for random drip pan type thing _ I remember making this, but don't know what I made it for They ordered a single conveyor. 3 weeks after install, they wanted it turned into 2 conveyors.... Done Ok, that's it for now. Also in the middle of reformatting the big computer. Stupid corrupt/missing .dll's wouldn't let me run autocad or illustrator. Only 6 more hours of updates and software installs.

Reply:Thanks for posting the pics. I've never done any food/sanitary welding but do you have to keep the rods clean and out of the atmosphere kind of like 70's or is that just a neat rod holder?TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE

Reply:Another conveyor in the makings. Part of a big job coming up. Will be taking this and 3 other conveyors to somewhere in kansas beginning of July. More pics as I can, it's crazy busy right nowSent from my SGH-T999L using Tapatalk
Reply:more pics....We have a 2 large jobs coming up the first 2 weeks of July and they are out of town jobs. So everything for both jobs needs to be built before we leave for the first job Anyways pics of some stuff going on in the shop:
Reply:Freshly built weld table in finished form. Just got the tops for it today. I and the new guy made the frame from scrap 1/4" wall 3" square tube. The frame was sand blasted so that's why it doesn't look like black iron. The top is actually 2 layers: 1/2" steel plate attached to the frame (leveled and straightened in every way possible) then a 1/2" 6061 aluminum plate on top that is bolted down with counter sunk socket head bolts. All of our table are aluminum topped, and I'll be honest...... IT"S AWESOME! Especially welding stainless. The table actually works like a big heat sink if you clamp the piece properly.
Reply:Pics from this past weekend's job. ran about 120' of 1.5" sanitary pipe. with cascading drip pans underneath of about 40' of it. Didn't get a lot of pics, but hey, it's pipe. Nothing we all haven't seen before. LOL
Reply:Well, Just got back home this evening after being out of town for a few days doing a conveyor modification. Feels good to be home and see the family. Took pictures and thought I'd share Changed over from a flat rubber belt to an uber expensive (and heavy too) intralox belt. Drive motor was moved to the front shaft and new take ups made to accommodate the new belt. Everything (less the little guard and the love joy coupler) was fabricated onsite without any of the luxury equipment like a shear, brake, or saw. All from materials scavenged around the facility Last edited by dcoffmanjr; 06-29-2014 at 10:52 PM.

Reply:looks like fun man! gotta say most food plants I work in are disgusting though! gotta hand it to you, that kind of work/ scheduling for shutdowns, keeping up with the safety guy and his crazy demands, getting signed off to work then getting reamed because they were actually still running product, having maintenance flood their own attic and try and blame on me, having rotten ceilings cave in because they got flooded, having an employer who thinks a roll of masking tape and an extra bottle of argon is whats required for sanitary welding, trying not to say asbestos, being told they went over budget by some xmillion$ and cant pay, trying to figure out a good tie-off point that looks better than the last guy's crappy pipe hangers, being told not to purge "because no product will touch it" and trying to explain that it will never hold any pressure,   drives me insane! I hate em all but will kindly accept there moneybosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin

Reply:Well back in town from a week in the middle of Kansas. And BTW - Kansas is a beautiful state. I still can't get over it.So Got a few pictures to share, but not many as it was a ball-to-the-wall affair the entire time.

Reply:The entire packaging area of the plant, including 6 spiral freezers, is being replaced.... 6am to 7pm. The freezers are 40' talk inside and the evap cores are the size of a semi trailer-each....
Reply:Well, this sucks.... 12 hour days, 7 days a week. And a deadline that just keeps getting closer and closer. I've lost count on the amount of conveyors we are building right now. But it's nuts around the shop right now. And that's not even everything. It's almost impossible to capture in pictures. O.o Just got 8 or 9 pallets full of conveyor belts, plus more on the way. This has been a crazy past few weeks to say the least. I'll be posting some more pictures throughout the week as we get some of them done and ready to ship
