I was sent to pick up a CAT 315 excavator and move it to the owners yard. Well............. I couldn't move it because if the boom was lifted, it would have fell into the cab causing more damage. So, I moved another piece until a mechanic could come out and put some glue on to hold it in place for transportation. I've never seen one this bad. And no, I did not do any welding on this. It is getting a new boom. Just thought I would share."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:That's awful man.
Reply:In the demolition world this is totally common. Beating on them and if I had to guess the cab side is still together? The boom base takes a pretty good beating turning with a full bucket/ or heavy attachment when going from swinging to stopping. I have rebuilt these before with great success and zero failures post repair. I'll try and make a sketch of the repair I would do and have done. I've built them from scratch and returned them from the dead at Company Wrench
Reply:Red line would get cut out and replace with new steel. 3/8'' root with 1/4''x1'' flat bar backing to achieve 100% weld. Green would be lap plate top and bottom. Top and bottom joints offset by about a foot. Terex's booms were bad for this. f a company was proactive they could fix this problem long before now by seeing the paint was failing.
Reply:Seriously though I'd recomend the company call Company Wrench in Carrol , Ohio for a qoute to fix this it'll be better than new. Tell them to talk to Jimmy Seifert in the fab shop!
Reply:Aint nothin some 10018 and fish plates wont fix.
Reply:On a highway project near me, they were using three or four excavators with hammers to widen a rock cut. They couldn't reroute traffic, so there was no blasting, just months of hammering. The excavators were all sold for little money for the hours on them, but I suspect is was for this very reason. All that pounding can't be good on the arms, especially when you see the arm supporting the weight of the machine as it gets some leverage to break rock.Lincoln Precision Tig 185Lincoln Power Mig 256Hypertherm PM 45Everlast 140STSmith O/A

Reply:No, I-81 in Scranton. They finished the rock cut and are paving now. I've also heard that the hammers are tough on the hydraulic system. May contribute to the sale price as well.Lincoln Precision Tig 185Lincoln Power Mig 256Hypertherm PM 45Everlast 140STSmith O/A
Reply:I'd fix that for 500.00 today. Be done in 3hr.
