I want to build a go cart for my daughter and me. Any body have any idea's or plans for a two seater cart frame I can weld together.LINCOLN WELDANPOWER AC-225/DC-210/6 CODE #8705MILLER TRAILBLAZER 302 EFIMILLERMATIC 211MILLER BOBCAT 225G
Reply:The lesson I learned is do not try to go from the motor to the axle in one drive belt... it will not provide enough gear reduction. That and home made brakes rarely work like engineered units... Can't help you on the 2 seater design.250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes

Reply:@ penner - my daughter used to rip around the block on a Coyote kart rolling chassied, B&S4Hp powered gas engine. One seater. When she was 6-9 yrs old. Purchased used from a buddy. We did not build. Only mentioning this to you because you may want to consider building a tubular model for a single pilot. Why? Believe she will be more apt to use the kart as she matures. The CG on these single riders are way safer than the plans thus listed above. Way more fun also. YMMV.Last edited by ManoKai; 11-07-2015 at 08:53 AM.Reason: syntax"Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:If you build a single seater, you will end making at least 2. Chances are as she matures you'll end up making a second as well for her friends. I made a few go karts as a hobby when I first started welding. First one had NO suspension, and you would bounce out of the kart every time you hit a small bump. Second one had rear suspension and a dual part front suspension which basically consisted of some large springs combined with a set of shocks. Light springs would absorb the little bumps and make for a smoother ride, shocks would absorb the larger bumps. I made a dirt bike too, which was really fun until my brother crashed it. Looking back now, knowing what I know now, I can't believe I let my family ride this stuff I had made. Don't attempt to make a go kart if you're not an experienced welder.Whtbaron is correct. You need to use a jackshaft, or a torque converter, sometimes both. A kart geared for 30MPH will feel like you're going 70! Also I do recommend you go off a set of plans. Both the karts I made I designed completely from scratch, which was fun and a great learning experience, but I can't tell you how many times I had to remake something because it ended up interfering with something on the kart, or just straight up didn't work. Also, as sad as it is, at least around me law enforcement has really come down on riding go karts, dirt bikes, and even electric scooters in the street, or on public property in general. Just something to take into consideration if you don't have a lot of property.John 3:16(2) Miller Pheonix 456(2) Millermertic 252Dynasty 210DXHobart 210MVPDoringer D350 SA Cold SawScotchman 350LT Cold SawWebb 10x50 MillWebb 15x40 LatheGeka Bendicrop Ironworker
Reply:If its a 2 seater you will need a bigger engine and more heavy duty everything else. If you go off road or sand it will need alot more power then street. If I build a 2 seater it be a 250 2stroke motor. Might be 500$ tho for a good running motor but worth it!
Reply:Our future projects include an electric kart powered by an AC-31 induction motor. Dreaming up a chassis design and external shrouding in salute to the SR-71. Reply:Thanks for all the info! My dad and his brother built a go kart in the mid to late 70's. Than in the late 90's my dad and me found that old kart and rebuilt it. We bought and old john deere snowmobile and used the motor and clutch, it was pretty fast. Now 15 odd years later and 1500 miles away from that kart I want to pass the tradition on and have the challenge of building a kart from ground up.LINCOLN WELDANPOWER AC-225/DC-210/6 CODE #8705MILLER TRAILBLAZER 302 EFIMILLERMATIC 211MILLER BOBCAT 225G
Reply:How much money do you think you can build one for? What size tires would you run?
Reply:I might know a friend with two store bought frames that need paint and engine work. I can check for you.

Reply:Mine was built for next to nothing with mostly junk about 16 years ago, but I was still into it for around $200 worth of tubing even then. We put the carb off a 16HP Briggs on an old 8 HP Wisconsin and bumped the timing on the mag. I used a junked garden tractor for the front axle, tires and wheels. It wanted to scream, but with a single belt drive it was geared too high. It wanted to do 60 but you had to slip the belt constantly to keep it from stalling. We clocked it at around 45 mph just before I found out the brakes didn't work...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
