I recently purchased an apparently old Oxweld torch but don't really know anything about it. It has a label that states CW-105 and Prest-o-Weld. Can anyone let me know when this torch was made and anything else about it. Let me know if you need any other information. I will be selling it on eBay in the near future if anyone is interested too. Thanks!
Reply:Here is a picture of the torch (on my facebook page) https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...&type=1&ref=nf Any ideas as to the age/value of this torch?
Reply:That's a cutting attachment, not a complete torch. It's also missing a knob which means getting a valve from another torch of that style. (Oxweld, Purox and relatives liked making knob style changes.) When you Ebay it take a pic of the butt end so prospective buyers can see inside. I'll guess 1930s, maybe 40s. I like such stuff but don't know if it fits any of my torch handles.Value from ten to twenty bucks with twelve bucks shipping which covers a medium flat rate box and internet tracking. Thanks for posting. Old torches are cool. I added the pic to this post for reference. Attached Images
Reply:Thanks for the great information!! I will probably be listing it tonight on ebay if you are interested.
Reply:Looking at the (excellent job!) Ebay pics there is something odd with the base. No male or female attachment fitting or typical tapped hole for same. I don't know what the missing bits look like.Pics of its relatives are in the Oxy-Acetylene Handbook I have, but they only show Prest-O-Weld straight torches and welding handles with welding tips.CW even that far back means cutting attachment, so anyone know what attaches this puppy to the W handles of the time? A male fitting of "tip nut" size secures welding tips in some female handles that have the same body fluting (and styling would suggest a close fit for matching the body tubes), but I can't find any info.
Reply:Thanks for getting the pic on here. Wasn't sure how to do that. I have it listed on eBay now. I appreciate the help!
Reply:More info:While it is NAMED as an attachment, it appears to in fact be a torch with a large part of it missing. (Donors aren't too hard to find and likely worth sacrificing to fix that one.)I just got a Linde handle with the same body fluting and "valve body". You can see the base fitting where the belt ring attaches has the same joint. The Linde is a W-108. It fits the "flanged" Prestoweld gas welding tips and used a cutting torch tip nut to retain them. The knobs are original and would be the right style for the 105. Attached Images |
