what are the best tungstens to use in a lincoln precision tig 225 with pulser using the #17 air cooled torch for stainless, steel and aluminium? any assist would help..thankyou
Reply:A while back they used to recommend running 2% Thoriated Tungsten for steel and stainless and Pure for Aluminum. Just a few years ago this has changed and we were told that 2% Thoriated Tungsten will work for any type of work including aluminum and that the only reason Pure should be used anymore is for NASA type applications on aluminum. Some still prefer different types such as Pure, 2% Ceria, and 1% Thoria, but 2% Thoriated is the most common and easiest to find at the local welding shop.
Reply:Ceriated will work on everything, doesn't have the health issues associated with thorium, and will maintain its point better than thoriated will, particularly in AC applications. That's part of the reason why it's recommended (almost mandatory) for inverter applications, but works just the same on the transformer machines.
Reply:My vote goes for Lanthanated . It works extremely good on my SW200 and it's all I use now for all applications . Far better than Ceriated ( for me ) .Miller MM252 with Q300Hypertherm PM1000Everlast Powertig 200DXMiller Syncrowave 200
Reply:arc zone's hybrid doesnt suck either.use it in my inverter for everything. with a point.I have some red also. works for alu. also.the hybrid is defiantly more resistant to contamination.(not affiliated in any way)never tried orange or any other...didnt need to.but im sure theyd work fine alsoG |
