trying to figure out the features on my new ta 186 but mostly sticking to basics like pre and post flow. some 16 ga with 1/16" filler then some 1/4" with 3/32" electrode and filler. i'm still not sure which hand i want to hold the torch with. last pic shows both. left half of the weld is holding the torch in my left hand and rs is holding torch in my right. Reply:16ga needs filler thinner than itself, or rather it lends itself much much better. You need thinner than 1/16" filler rod if you want to start practicing correctly. Otherwise you'll either end up too cold and blobs/drops of filler from the arc melting the rod, or undercut from using too much heat into the base metal. Also try focusing the camera before the shutter. Very hard on the eyes trying to focus on something that won't focus. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:I can't tell from the blurriness if there are flap disk/grinding wheel marks where you removed all the millscale prior to lighting up the torch. Hence the need for clearer pictures. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig!
