175hd & 180hd

I was trying to find the anwser thru the search and didnt find quite the response I was looking for. So whats the big difference in these two machines? I was at home depot and I saw that the 175 was on sale with almost $100 off. Is the 180 that much better that you would pass up on the 175 deal? I would only use the mig really for frame work so what would you guys do.Thanks, Slim

Reply:Please don't mess with the Home Depot junk.. A local Lincoln dealer may be a little more expensive, but if you're going to buy a welder, why not do it right. Lincoln actually makes those machines specially for Home Depot and Lowes and they are not the same machines that local stores sell. They are cheaper built and do not have the same features. Lincoln may have a 3 year warranty on the machines, but how much is Home Depot really going to do for you? If you purchase these machines through a real Lincoln dealer, they will help you set the machine up the right way and if you do have any problems with it, they can assist you a lot faster and more efficiently than Lowes or Home Depot.

Reply:LWS don't even sell SP's anymore. The HD models are built for Home Depot/Lowes ONLY. LWS can't even purchase them without going through Home Depot/Lowes. They do not have the aluminum drive system and are still using the old style guide tubes, whereas the Power Migs are using a backplate that does not get blocked up with dirt/debris and stop the wire up and cause problems. When problems occur and warranty assistance is needed, Home Depot and Lowes have actually told people to go to LWS and receive assistance. AND, if any parts are needed, it can be very difficult to get them and most of the time are not even in stock.
