Reply:No. That's not insane.  It's Massachusetts. And customers still question why their jobs cost what they do.Last week I took my cat (outdoor cat that hangs around) into the vet.  He'd been gone a couple days and came home looking pretty bad.  Lost weight, wasn't eating/drinking water, or taking care of himself.Vet looks at him and says, "Looks like he's been in a fight and tongue was cut.  Dehydrated and seems to have fluid in his lungs." I say, "Well he's been a pretty good little guy.  Pretty much stays around the house and keeps the field mice in check.  Do what you need to do to make him feel better."Well, hour and a half later, he's had a chest x-ray, drained fluid from his lungs, given antibodics, and handed back to me along with some meds and three cans of special cat chow. The bill...$371 plus change.  Dang.  I'm in the wrong business.Just waiting for the vet to need some welding/fabrication work to be done.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:The price on the 9" wheel was $6.74 The 6" cutoffs were $2.57 each times 25 equals $64.40 and $15.10 for the chipping hammer, sales tax here is 6.25% on top of that.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Originally Posted by boatbuilderDid you ask for an estimate first? That vet went to school for ten years. They have to pay off the student loans some how.Check on ebay for grinding and cut off disks. I got a bunch for fairly cheap. Paid half the price of what it costs at local stores.
Reply:Just a note Vet Techs are much cheaper than vets, because they didn't go to school for 8 years, but do the same stuff. They are very similar to the old, small town country doctors, who charge for what they really do instead of what the market will bear. My personal opinion, however, is what it costs compared to the 'Other' shot that is available at the vet.

Reply:Mass Tax? I'll see your 6.25 and raise 6.35% our new govenor has decided to raise our taxes whild cutting our services big time. Our Vet beats the Shasbot out of us everytime we bring and animal there. our cat has to have special food due to liver disorder, he's 13 now and we pay about 40 dollars for a 12 lb. bag. have done this for years but he is quite a character and does kill every rodent around. Unfortunately he can't fight worth Shasbot cause he's always coming home all carved up, back to the vet again.       As far as the pick's and consumable abrasives what can you do? I also have been told to watch the imports as they may contain things that aren't allowed here like asbestos and other bad things to inhale."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400

Reply:No Sales tax, but state income tax. I'm in WA and no state income tax, and if your close to the boarder you just hope over and get your day to day supplies/large electronics with no tax. they still get you on cars and items that need to be licensed though. wont let you license it in wa if you live in wa and purchased in OR without paying WA sales tax on it. bastards. There are no problems. Reply:Thats right ThorsHammer.   And somehow the police in WA have a way of figuring out if you are an oregon resident when they see your car in Washington.   I hear there are huge fines if you get caught with an OR registered car living in WA.  The oregon income tax doesnt bother me tho.   Thats standard in most states anyway. The sales tax will cost you a lot more in the long run over a year.    Besides half of Vancouver has to commute to Portland anyway.   So they end up having to pay oregon income taxes too.“I'm going to do the thing that God put Galen Beasley on this Earth to do:Have Salon quality hair and weld.Nothing like a good cup of coffee and the smell of 6010 burning in the morning. 971-204-3444 cell API ASME Structural NDT and Repair

Reply:You know, I don't mind paying a little extra for service and knowledge but Airgas is so lame...  I get so pissed every time I try to order 309L stainless filler.  It's not uncommon.  You can get it in SMAW, wire for MIG, cut lengths for TIG, and dual shield and they still don't know it exists.  You can really **** them up if you try to order any of the standard brazing alloys I like to keep on hand for various repairs like low-fume bronze or 50N silver/nickel alloy.  All they stock is that Radnor crap, they hardly carry any USA made name brand consumables anymore and they still charge USA name brand price for everything.  Oh, and if you take in Victor regulators for their exchange program they think it's ok to give you back a set of Harris regulators.Although, Airgas's idiocy has its perks.  We've managed over the past two years to exchange our fleet of about 15 Airgas owned tankes (CO2, O2 and Acetylene) for an equal number of slick-neck tanks without our knowledge.  Saves us a bunch on refills.Last edited by 76GMC1500; 12-31-2011 at 01:28 AM.
Reply:I went to Airgas a few days ago so I could replenish my supplies before the end of the year.  I wanted some 2% lanthanated tungsten.  They couldn't even order it, but wanted like $120 for a 10 pack of 1.5%.  No thanks...I'll just spend the $40 on the internet.  ER70S-2 Tig wire, only 1 lb tubes at about $6 lb.  I'm seriously considering buying a spool and twisting my own.  What's mig wire?  About $2 a lb?My name's not Jim....

Reply:That CAT vet bill was not bad at all, we took our two dogs in for anual check up, nothing special and no known problems or fancy drugs, or x-ray.....bill was over $400...up there maybe 20 minets max......
