Bed frame welding table !

Gaining knowledge from experience!! my first table to weld on was an old banquet table given to me by a neighbor you can see the table top under the ply wood was chard to perfection. Who would of thunk when you first start out you don't weld on wood work tables HA!!, so this is the careful start of my bed frame welding table like I have stated in past posts I weld with allot of bed frame material's. This table was built from 3 different frames and has seen many project's since it's completion. It measures 50" x 90" and has a half solid top made from an old road sign I found hey we all had to start some where I have looked back and laughed at my self many times in the past 4 years.... `

Reply:Lumpy, I have made many things from bed frames.  They all have a really bad smell when welding as the paint starts to smoke.  Best regards, Bob

Reply:Lumpy   glad to see you built a table from what you had to work with.   Years ago when I started out I had to work off the ground with 8 inch concrete blocks and a piece of old plywood.    Keep a welding on..........

Reply:Nice use of bed frame angle. I got a lot of bed frame angle that I pick up out of the dumpster. Need to find some projects for it. I have that same yellow and red dump truck that's under your table. I found mine in a dumpster. I like to save construction equipment toys and set them out in the yard.Chad
Reply:Mike! before Vegas Valley metal sold out to another company they would let people cruise there yard pick out stuff to purchase weigh it and you took it home. My buddy & I got to know the fella operating the yard quite well he would call us when things like that came in for scrap, we purchased 8 sheets of this stuff from him for 25 cents a pound. We split the cost & material I have done my gates with it table top's BBQ rack's it's about gone but we made a score that day. My friend & I use to go to the scrap yard sit on the K-rails they had in the dumping area watch people come in dump there scrap, when they left we would go through the pile before loader pushed it in to a pile got a bunch of cheap metal to weld with from that place. But all good things come to an end new owners won't let the public back in yard anymore .....
Reply:Richey hello yeah I built this thing to getting away from a wood tables after I set the first one on fire HA! it's nothing you can do precision work on but it did what I wanted it to do it has since become a paint & grinding table. I have since been given a piece of 1/8 metal 3'x4' I do my set up and welding on makes it much easier to keep things straight!!

Reply:Burpee hello! Yeah this is not a precision work table for sure it has become my grinding & paint table I have acquired a more suitable surface to work off of but it worked for the time I started playing with a welder..
Reply:Hello Chad ! those trucks are my 4 year old great grandson's he likes to play under the table when I'm out there doing things we have started him a collection of TONKA truck's to play with. I have become known as the scrounger among my neighbors, I some times come home and there will be a pile of bed frames or scrap beside the drive way one of them have left for me! what I can't use I sell for scrap & buy more wire to weld with. If I would of known being retired was this much fun I would of done it years earlier .
Reply:Little Jeep hello! hey fellas I just want to say I'm having fun filling my days with this new found hobby since I retired, I'm just having fun creating something from nothing like Little Jeep said & it keeps me out of trouble & the bar's. I am in AH! of some of the stuff I have seen you fellas create and do on this site, I ventured in to welding so I could make bridges I wanted to put in my Garden Railroad layout anyway you fellas have a great week .
