So, I enjoy doing Tig but my hands are not very steady even when resting my arm/pinkie finger is there any tricks to getting a steady hand? That is what seems to usually mess up my welds is that I can't hold it steady and move smoothly. Tips or tricks? or does more practice help steady your hand and that's all I can do?  Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk
Reply:Practice helps a lot, another reason might be that you may have a solid prop, but be getting in a bind due to a bad position of your prop. Search for a natural feeling rest spot for your prop that allows you to run from one end to the other end of the weld. If you get in a bind and start to struggle, stop and re position yourself.Miller Maxstar 200 SDPiperliner #10 Gold
Reply:Practice the positions and grips that give you problems. Like propping on your pinky, etc. It takes time to get all the small muscles built up in you hand and forearm to get everything running smoothly. Also, don't focus on you hands shaking because it will just make the problem worse. The sooner you forget that your shaking the better off you'll be. Mainly practice though.

Reply:Just over thinking about it causes me to shake......sometimes an "I don't care" thought helps.
Reply:I like Jody's technique of constantly moving the torch. He moves in close to be sure he burns in the root then pulls a longer arc to dip the filler into the puddle. Its a lot like a whipping motion on 6010 rod...two steps forward, one step back. I find that using a rhythmical movement like that on my torch hand negates any shakiness. Likewise when I am running 7018, I move the rid tip in tiny circles...almost like taking advantage of not having steady hands. also don't lean on your torch hand...that will bind you up every time.Miller Multimatic 255
