I'm in the market for some hoodies I can wear while welding. Are there any good manufactures out there or am I better off buying some cheap 100%cotton ones from somewhere? Thanks guys
Reply:Just curious are you trying to keep warm or are you going to use the hoodie to block light from coming into the back of your welding hood?Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.

Reply:Im trying to stay warm. The job I do is not technically outside, but instead in an open ended warehouse type.
Reply:Maybe consider a hard hat helmet liner. All kinds available with some that have a long neck cover. Many are flame retardanthttps://www.google.com/search?q=hard...t+helmet+liner
Reply:Most will have some poly in them, I really likes that old Skull Skates hoodie too.SqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A
Reply:Any amount of poly is a bad thing to have when sparks and hot metal are flying around, correct? The helmet liner I may have to look into. My grandpa thinks it's gonna be a rough winter from the amount of acorns and such on the ground.Ima check Walmart today for 100% cotton sweatshirts.

Reply:I believe you are correct. I assumed acorns. Haha. He has a saying about assuming as well that seems fitting. I'm still learning little things and sayings from him.
Reply:Cheap cotton would work, but you could certainly spend a lot more if you feel so inclined.  Just Google "FR Hoodie"!

Reply:Carharttt (and other brands) makes some really nice FR stuff. I have one of there button up shirts that I am impressed with they also had a button up jacket that I was quite interested in maybe picking up in the future. I'd looking into a jacket and maybe just a nice cotton hat or helmet liner.
Reply:I would say look for some good deals on Carhartt stuff. I was at a work clothes place and they had $200 Carhartt waxed cotton waterproof jackets on sale for $100. I got one and it's awesome. It breathes well and very durable.
Reply:I know of 2 fr goodies made for welding/cutting. I'm on a new phone so having trouble posting links, but go to hypertherms website and go to genuine hypertherm acessories. They have what they call a fr jersey made for cutting. Another option would be to go to castle welding supply (castlerentals.net) once your on the welding supply page just go to clothing and on the botto. Of the page they have a fr goodie with leather sleeves product number (SHOODIE). I used to follow a company on my old in stag ram that made these I'll have to cry and find the name. I usually just wear an old cotton Hoodia with a  fr wrangler shirt that's a little larger over the top.
Reply:My experience with FR man made fibers is that they still melt, you still get burned and you spend allot of money.  The only thing FR means is that it wont carry a flame, it does not mean it will not melt or burn.  I have experiences third degree burns in FR clothing. I would get the cheap stuff, preferably cotton or leather. Hoodies are spark traps.Constant Current Weldor.

Reply:Thanks for all the info guys. FR gear is a little out of my price range for the time being.
Reply:I was in the safety shop the other day and saw a really good looking welding hoodie cross welding leather jacket. Basically fireproof hoody but has proper leather sleeves and a detachable hood which looked really good and heard great things about it. Was expensive but looked like it would last. Think the brand is weldarmor
