I had one of my female auto body students that wanted to do a project for SkillsUSA contest. She liked the rebel symbol from Star Wars. We started talking about it and decided that she could cut the symbol out of 1/8 sheet and then paint a scene from Star Wars on it.I know how hard it is to freehand something with a plasma cutter and I did not want her to have the welding class cut it out for her on their computer controlled plasma table. (she wouldn't learn anything that way)I finally thought of using welding rod and had her bend and tack it to the plate. This gave her something to follow with the torch. She started cleaning it up after grinding and still has some to do before she paints the artwork on the plate. This is much more interesting than just doing the art work on a square or rectangular panel. We will make a stand to stand it up for display. It is 21 inches tall. She was pretty excited by what she had done so far. The other kid's compliments made it all pretty cool. Attached ImagesLast edited by Crabo; 09-12-2014 at 08:49 PM.
