Hey guys what brand of power tools do you like best makita or dewalt? I like dewalt my self. But they both have a good 18v cordless line up let me know what you think.WELDER
Reply:The ridgid cordless have a lifetime warranty on them, even the batteries are covered.
Reply:Does it matter? Anything from either one is made in the far east, as far as I can see in my area.Fools speak when they want to say something; the wise speak when they have something to say
Reply:I recently purchased the Makita cordless 18v drill which also came with a cordless impact. The impact sits in the garage.  I bought Makita because a fellow I was working with had one and I became very impressed with it.  Lots of power, charges fast and Lit Ion batts.  I can say I have had good service from Makita drills, chop saws and recip saws.  I feel that the service has been so good that I would not stray away from buying them again.  Plus i like blue over yellow.
Reply:I have the 18v Dewalts, but mostly because I like the "L" shaped hammer drills and they are one of the few companies that have them. I used to use the old 9v and 12v Makita's, but they became to hard to source and keep running, not to mention I needed other brands for other tools like the impact wrench, lights and so on and I prefer to try and keep batteries as interchangeable as possible. Same reason I quit running the older 14v Dewalts. Simply too hard to find tools that would use the 14v batteries vs the 18 v ones..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:i like makita my set works great Attached Images
Reply:I have more Makita tools then any others. I've owned, in 18V, three Dewalts, one Porter Cable, one Ridgid and one Makita. The Makita is by far and away the best. It has put in thousands of TEK screws and keeps on going.
Reply:I work with a company that installs wood and wire shelving in closets, we have that set that ed mac pictured.  After a day of lifting that big heavy dewalt impact gun and drill, Its like lifting 2- 4lb weights about a hundred times. Them makita's are light for the power they provide, and they have a light on the gun, it doesnt seem a big deal, but when you need it it helps alot.
Reply:I use Makita 18v.  I still have the old 9.6v drill and trim saw, they are still running strong.I had a couple dewalts that died pretty quick for the money, batteries died, replaced with B&D batteries, then the drill itself.  Bought the rubber coated ryobi drill and that lasted even after breaking the area where the battery mounted.  Had a hitachi drill/flashlight combo that I bought because that was all the money I had that day.  Didn't make it to its first birthday. After the hitachi, bought a ryobi drill/flashlight/trim saw on sale, again, all the money I had in my pocket that day.  Lasted less that two years. This is actually the third drill/impact set.  The first two got left in Australia with my brother in law on one trip and another friend the next time.  Although Makita Australia says that you will damage the batteries recharging with a transformer, been a few years, a lot of decks/retaining wall/fences and still going strong.  The transformer are cheap ones too.  Makita  Australia won't honor the warranty, but there has been no problems. So if you didn't  guess I like the Makita but have thought of trying those tiny dewalts.Cheers, Tom.
Reply:I own a Makita orbital sander, grinder and a chainsaw. Never failed me.Yakdung
Reply:Just an aside to my last post.  Makita makes 18v portable bandsaw, an awesome 18v auto feed drywall screwgun and vacuum.I use the vacuum cleaning up at the end of my jobs.Cheers, Tom
Reply:Thanks Tom I will check those out.WELDER
Reply:In the pic from Ed Mac I noticed the angle grinder does not have a guard does it come with one? And by the way nice set Ed MacWELDER
Reply:I'm a DeWalt guy, mostly because two other guys had makita already and were always getting their stuff mixed up.So after many years I'm still a DeWalt guy...really like the 18 volt nailguns,SDS and grinder.I have the 20v impact gun and the 18v but use the 12v mostly
Reply:My 4.5" grinders are DeWalt, all my old cordless was DeWalt 18V, but I just got the Makita lithium ion set and they are the balls. My big grinder, end grinder, porta band, sawzall, and right angle drill are Milwaukee. I have a Makita worm drive skillsaw that is the best I have ever owned.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:If it comes down to the two I'll take DeWalt, they have the largest variety of tools on the market and they hold up quite well. If you ask me my absolute favorite I'd have to say Hilti & Festool would be my choice.I.B.E.W Electrician and Damn Proud of It !!!! .Virtus Junxit Mors Non Separabit http://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/
Reply:nice set of tools posted up above, are they stored under glass?    i use a lot of makita tools, can't find better.this drill and impact driver have been abused for five years.  i can't kill them.  i purchased two 3 A/H batts and i'm still using them and the smaller ones.   i regularly drill through steel and aluminum in some really brutal environments.   i have set thousands of 3 in deck screws, self tappers and lags; one inch paddle bits for the lags.    my last dewalt grinder burned up on friday (it did hold up well,  not putting it down)  and i ordered 2  7 in makita grinders, 148 ea  from amazon.the lithium ion batteries makita produces can't be beat.   i've tried most of them.these two items have done so well by me that this year i just may retire them out of kindness. Reply:I bought the Ridgid X4 set due to the lifetime warranty on everything and so far they're been awesome. They feel great and perform awesome. Some other features, like the 4-level battery indicator, are pretty useful too.The two downsides: it's the Home Depot exclusive brand, so it's not as easy to find deals on them (specifically new batteries). I paid $450 for the set (used a 10% off Lowes moving coupon), which at the time included a bonus battery. Also, there aren't really any additional tools to add to it: you're basically limited to the hammer drill, driver, circular saw, and reciprocating saw.One thing to note is that the lifetime warranty is ONLY valid for the original purchaser, and you must register the products, so consider that before buying used (though I have seen the complete sets sell for $250 used).Edit: Looks like you can still get a free battery with the set: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...ocStoreNum=630
Reply:I own a Ridgid 18V cordless drill, and their batteries are not any good. I'm on my fourth set.Yakdung
Reply:I have an 18V Lithium Dewalt Hammer Drill that cost me about $270 and then I bought a bare tool Dewalt 1/4" Impactor and it could not have come in more handy then when my wife and I built our deck.  I even use the impactor a lot on my quads and motorcycles.  It is the greatest tool known to man....... and my wife thought it was her size and was more then happy to use it on the deck!  I don't even get my drill out unless I am actually drilling something, never to install fasteners.  Also, the Lithium batteries charge in 20-30 minutes which is great.
