pipe welding rod

im writing this to see what rod other welders use when welding pipe.  i carry an 1104 cert and weld pipe every day with jetweld 7018 which i dont feel is the best rod.  It was the only rod they would buy us until a couple weeks ago when after a year a asking to try other rod they bought 50 lbs of murex 3/32,1/8 and 5/32.  we did prolly fifty welds with no x ray failures. the boss said we would try a couple more rods. I would like try try excaliber to see how it compares.  I just wondered what other pipe welders ran and if its different why they feel its better. ive heard of other brands such as atom arc but heard its real expensive.  i guess i feel that being in the business of making high pressure pipe welds that we shouldnt just use the cheapest rod which is why we use the jetweld.  95% of the pipe i weld is 3 inch and 4 inch xxh.
Reply:All I ever use is lincoln 5p+ 6010 for root Esab or air liquide 7018 rest of the way out , I like esab better though

Reply:Basic stick weld 5P 6010 and 7018 Excalbur.
Reply:I don't do pipe either but a friend does and most of the stuff is 6010,8010,&7018 for ms pipe.
Reply:FWIW, i bought 5 # of the Lincoln 7018 jet the other day and didnt think it welded well at all. I have been using excaliber for years before and like the way it welds.
