Hi , I really need help deciding what to buy for a plasma cutter? I have read countless posts, I still have no idea what to buy, for starters , it will be used very little, 1/2" will be the very thickest material it would be used on, 3/8 mostly , can a plasma torch cut cast iron up? I will be using it on equipment trailers 7000lbs cap.Even though it will be used very little, I don't want a e-bay special, I am looking into a hypertherm , I really don't know what size I need , also I have not heard anything about hobart plasmas? what got me looking was the eastwood plasma for 6 and some change, but I am not so sure it would be the best choice? buget is $1000 to $1800 +or-, any advice would be greatly app!
Reply:Once you start using a good quality plasma.....you will find you will probably use it a lot. For your needs a Hypertherm Powermax45.....which you can find new in your price range....will cover your needs very well. It has the capacity to easily pierce and cut 1/2" material.....and can sever much more than that...I have severed over 1-1/4" with this torch on more than one occasion. Advantages of the Hypertherm systems:-Torches are designed so you can drag cut or template cut for best cut quality...this can be done at full power with no detrimental effect on consumable life.-Known for the best consumable life...nozzles and electrodes will last longer than other equivalently powered systems.-Hypertherm is the largest plasma manufacturer....designs, tests and builds all of its products in the USA. The company employees (about 1300 right now) own the company.-Systems are designed for ease of use, portability, reliability and cut speed/quality.Link to website info on the Powermax45:  https://www.hypertherm.com/en/Produc...powermax45.jspJim Colt Originally Posted by logsHi , I really need help deciding what to buy for a plasma cutter? Reply:I think a Hypertherm Powermax 45 would serve you very well... Those are sweet units, I picked mine up last August on Ebay for $1,550 and its been very good to me. Its made for 1/2", and can sever 1" slowly, but without much trouble. You can cut cast iron, aluminum, stainless, etc with a plasma cutter. Hopefully this site will get you going:http://weldingwithstretch-com.webs.c...smacutting.htm[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:Cyberweld has Thermal Dynamics cutmaster 42 for $915.00 free shipping.Welder Source has the Hypertherm 30 for $1039.00 again free shipping. Both will do what you want, check your local consumables, and warranty support. That would be my decision maker, not the less than 100 bucks difference in the price.
Reply:Another vote for a PM 45 from Hypertherm. The PM 30 is another nice machine, but a bit underpowered for what you want I believe..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:I was checking out the 30 , but I think I would like a little more power that the 45 has

Reply:Maine Oxy is a good choice.....if there are others in your area you can find them at www.hypertherm.com  then click on "where to buy".   Best regards, Jim Colt   Hypertherm  Originally Posted by logsJim, I live in the Portland Me area and was wondering about dealers in the area? or a place that sold it online that you could recommend, I would like to buy it from the same outfit that can also service it.,I prefer to buy it locally if possible.
Reply:Sounds like they've helped you make up your mind, but for what its worth, I think you'll be pleasantly impressed with the PM45.  I bought a PM65 a few days ago and just had the chance to wire/fire it up tonight.  I had to cut some gussets out of 1 1/2" plate. I cut 8 gussets that had at least 16" cuts each.   The machine preformed flawlessly right out of the box, and I have almost NO plasma experience.  Made awesome cuts faster than advertised!!  Good luck, I think you'll be happy with the hypertherm.
Reply:im going to with the 45
