Hello I have a Ranger 8 with the onan p216 engine and I have a problem. I changed the oil and overfilled it. Ran it maybe 5 min. checked it and seen what happened so I drained the excess. But now it spits oil out the fuel pump. I have changed the oil again, put new fuel pump on ,adjusted valves, checked the crankcase vent I am stumped. I know someone can help. It also has oil up in the breather. Is there something I have missed? Thanks in advance.
Reply:If it was doing all that you WAY over filled it.  Is the oil now at the correct level?  How exactly was the oil spitting out of the fuel pump?  I have had three different p216's before and they were overfilled a few times through the years, but never seen oil come out of the fuel pump before.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:It was about 1/2 quart . I drained the oil and put in 1.6 quarts. I didn`t notice the stem was bent up so all the oil did`nt drain out, I drained it pretty quick but now I can`t get it to stop.It`s not to much but it is coming from the hose from the back of the fuel pump where it comes from the motor for the pulse to make the pump work. Reply:Sounds like you just need to get the hose off and clean it out good.  Probably has oil still in it from when it was too full.  Hoses will have a tendency alot of time to hold oil in stiuations like this even when the oil level has been corrected.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Did you clean out the crankcase vent cap? On a Ranger 8 it should be the later style that has 4 check balls in it. Remove the cap and clean with solvent, carb cleaner etc. and make sure the balls are moving freely. Over filling with oil could have gummed them up and they are sticking. Reply:yes I did that also!!!  everything was fine the little balls rattled when I shook them the screen had some oil in it  so I cleaned it but she still spits it out the fuel pump. I think it is building to much pressure in the crankcase???

Reply:I'm not familiar with that machine.  Does it have a diaphram fuel pump?  This is one where the crankcase pressure is applied to one side of the diaphram to make it vibrate, and the other side has fuel with some check valves to make it pump.  Could the overfill have overpressurised the diaphram and ruptured it?  Just a guessI've overfilled them and had them puke oil up through the crankcase vent into the breather and down the carb.  It'll smoke like it has a hole in the piston and scare the crap out of you.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:No I don`t think so.I put a new pump on it. Still spits it out the new one. It was only overfilled for about 2 min after the oil change. It`s got me stumped,I have tryed just about every yhing that I can think of I even called some mechanics and tried what they said???    Does anyone know what the ocv should be on that ranger.
Reply:I would imagine OCV would be about the same on your Ranger as it is on my Weldanpower, mine said OCV max 80 volts, when I tested it, I got 72-74 volts, but there may be some voltage drop due to some corrosion on some wires that I didn't discover in my recent overhaul, you might be experiencing the same, but it should weld fine at 69 volts!#1.
