Started with 1.5 tube and ran it thru the bender
Reply:Covered the sections with a sheet of 4x8 - 3# expanded metal cut in half
Reply:Bent up some more 1.5 tube for the riser so it will sit above the side rails. My truck has a tool boxIn the bed so I had to offset the riser to fit in the box of the truck.
Reply:Side boards fabricated by hand. Hole saw and hand layout
Reply:Side rails and front hoop bent up in 1.5 tube
Reply:Almost finished out. Waiting on dimple die to flare the holes on side boards. Then off to powder.
Reply:Cool build.. Is the purpose of this to make storage under the utv when hauling?

Reply:I built this thing a few years back and I built to damn wide to fit in the back of a truck. So I want to pull the travel trailer and take the utv also. This was the only solution that I could think of, besides a new travel trailer. And I still have storage underneath it. It's going to take some lonnnnng ramps to get it up in the 2500 hd.
Reply:Gotcha.. It ought to get the job done.. Keep up the good work
Reply:That is a darn good looking rack for the utv. What did you build your ride out of and how is it built. Great post.
Reply:Started with a rusted and rotted Chinese go kart. I used the suspension off of it and fabbed everything else from my headIt took some time to do. I have more time then money. Lol.Last edited by texastrendz; 08-31-2014 at 12:16 AM.
Reply:Both projects are cool!Maybe you could have had the rack pivot toward the back when empty so you wouldn't have to climb so high or use such long ramps.Worth putting some thought into.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Is that a shear in the background of the build pic? Looks like a nice little unit! Nice builds too!
Reply:Yep that is a shear on the left of the pic. I got it cheap, both cylinders were blown on the hydro side. I rebuild the cylinders and have been running it for some time. It's good for 16 ga. soft steel. It make life easy sometimes
Reply:Awesome projects, they both turned out very well.

Reply:get a winch on your machine or on the truck, to which the machine up so that you don't need as long of ramps. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Already ahead of ya. It was another welding project for me on this one. One of my first tig projects that I did with my new miller machine. Turned out nice
Reply:I will get you a name off of it on tues. It's a great little machine. It's old, but it is solid
Reply:That's a fine build. The frame looks solid and it's obviously a clean work. Well done.PlasmaCam CNC cutterLathe and Band SawClamps
Reply:. Got it back from powder and it fits perfect.
Reply:. Dimple dies worked great even on .125 mild steel.
Reply:WOW great job. The unit really looks good. |
