Got tired of using wood as a platform so I used up some material from stock. Used 2'' schedule 80 pipe for the slide on pieces over the spears with 3'' channel tacked to that. Added 3 more pieces of 3'' channel perpendicular.Attachment 851771Attachment 851791Oh, I added a additional piece of 1/4'' x 3'' flat stock as a backstop. Bend up some 1/4'' x 3'' flat bar '' U''s to drop in a pin on the backside.Attachment 851801Bloted down diamond plate and even used a countersink on the holes.Attachment 851811Here's the bottomAnother reason to build this was I got a free tube of HOBART 6010 from " AMERICAN GAS'' a local supplier near me in Gurnee to try. The Hobart ran just like the Lincoln 5P +. I talked to Scott at American Gas and he told me the Hobart is $.80 A POUND CHEAPER then Lincoln. That could add up to a lot of money. Anyway , it worked well in overhead too. It is hard to believe that it is less money then Lincoln. What's weird is it is a white or ivory color rod. No more sayin hand me some red rod. I want this to be able to fit inside a 36'' door opening. Yea , it's heavy but does have a aluminum top. I built the original spear attachment years ago. One spear on top and up to four on bottom. I did leave the sides a little long in case I want a backstop . That inverted '' U'' on top I use for lifting with sling and shackle if needed. . The 3'' channels are a little wider then the diamond plate in case I decide to add a short side. It will have many uses for sure. I think the spears are rated at 2,000. I have lifted three large squares with it. Not fancy but it will work and hold whatever the loader will lift.
Reply:Looks good & should be real handy. Just watch your shins or maybe cap those spear tips some how. They would make running your shins into your truck ball hitch a picnic.
Reply:Finished the front end of platform. Bended 1/4'' x 2'' flat stock for the front end to wrap around spears as Rustyiron mentioned. Oh, I miss typed , American GASES Corp Attachment 856481is the full name not American Gas. Here's the Facebook , https://www.facebook.com/americangasescorp , Address and phone. 3949 Grove Ave, Gurnee, IL 60031 (847) 336-4734I got to test it with a upgraded drill press. Sure beats a two wheel hand truck. Attachment 856451
Reply:I never thought of making pipe pockets for the spears. Very clever. I'm going to steal your idea. |
