Saw a unit for sale over the weekend that is less a motor. Price is right how hard would it be to come across an engine for it? Anybody have one, of so what would you have to have for it? Thanks
Reply:You can put most any motor on a 225G. You would simply need to fab a motor mount and a stub shaft/adapter to link the rotor to the new motor. The generator would also need to be made free standing as it is supported by the engine in std configuration. Link up is easy. Lovejoy couplers are used for this type connection all the time. It wouldn't be the cheapest deal in the world, but it can be done. I lucked out and found a near new P216 on Ebay when I redid mine. I rebuilt the new motor with the old crank and it ran like a top. In retrospect, I believe it cost way more to do it that way....close to a 1400 clams. Moe1942 on Miller forum did this very same thing with his 225G. He put a Kohler CH-23 on his and it works perfectly.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
Reply:If I added the cost of the machine to your 1400 sounds like it would about the same as buying a good complete used model. I am really up in the air about it and thought that there would be some outt here that had generator problems. I really believe that I could adapt another motor to fit but man it would be easy to have the correct one to put it back together. Hopefully someone has one that will make this deal more appealing. Thanks for your help DDA52.
Reply:I repowered my old Bobcat with a Honda engine out of a Thermal Arc welder like this one.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=56226 It took 2 solid days and I needed most of my machining capability to do it. But it worked so much better than the Onan I took off that it was worth it. At one time Surplus Center had a 3 cylinder Kubota diesel engine for $1800. I threatened to get one and put on my AEAD200LE but I never had the money.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:I do not have the desire to rework it to use a different type of drive. I am looking to have a engine drive at my personal disposal, not to make a living. I was thinking that if i could pick up a drive for the unit that someone had junked because of a bad generator it would be well worth the money. 90% of the reason I was thinking about it is I want a backup generator for my home and a few projects that are in God's country miles from power. Figured that if I could have a dual purpose machine it would be a good choice.I dont want to have to keep tinkering with it, I own enough things that I have to work on before I use them, I want this to be right. I know that there are machines that guys put hours and hours in to make work, along with lots of green. These people will make them right but I want something that works the first time. We fight and fight things all day at work to make them fit, sometimes it is beat to fit and paint to match. I give you guys due credit along with many others in this fourm that some of the projects you guys create are nothing short of amazing. I will continue my search for the motor that came with it because I have enough projects. Thanks for the help guys let me know if you run across one. Thanks
Reply:Can you get the unit SN off the faceplate? The SN will allow determining if it's just a 225G or a 225G Plus that will allow determining if the crank is the former tapper or current threaded.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I will see what I can do about the SN, I didn't know that one used the taper and the other didn't. If it is a non taped shaft that makes things alot more simple. Thanks Duane Speaking of amazing, the weldan power that you did makes me jealous. I let one of those get away from me that we retired at work last fall. Makes me sad that I could not bring it back from the dead like yours.
Reply:May have missed the machine, guy has not returned my phone call. I will try him again first of the week, hopefully he didn't sell it.
Reply:Still have not been able to reach him, guess it is time time to give it up on this one. Thanks I learned alot about the bobcats. |
