Reply:By looking at the pic, I just wanted to know what i should work on.
Reply:I'm going to assume that's 6010 or 11. You're whipping too far forward each time, make them smaller. You can also try making little circles instead of whip and pause technique. Also practice stacking your beads. They're pretty straight so that's good. But stack the next bead so that it covers the previous bead by about half.
Reply:I would suggest you switch rods to 6013 or 7014 until you get more comfortable with bead placement (overlap of previous bead) and travel speed. You are doing great as far as being good and straight. After you feel better with the appearance of your pad with these rods go back to the 6010 or 6011, they are less forgiving when it comes to a pretty bead appearance do to their fast freeze natureSent from my iPad using TapatalkSteveLincoln IdealArc 250Lincoln SA200 1966 RedfaceSteve1990 Miller Dialarc 2501993 Miller Maxstar 140 STR2015 Lincoln MP2101966 Lincoln SA200 Redface
Reply:i think your plate is to thick for ypou to get a feel for whats going on. get some 3/16 plate, 1/8" 6011, crank your heat up, it'll make you move faster, keep your technique or whatever your doing, shorter like steelmind said.

The bad news is they were consistently too far apart. The real good news is the fact that you were consistent. That translates to faster learning, once you identify what was done wrong. The second pic considerable improvement. You aren't going to have a problem at all, as you continue to be willing to learn.
Reply:stick with 6011/10. stick with one type of rod first and get proficient with it before moving on to another type of rod. your second pic posted showed improvement already. try overlapping your beads on plate first before moving to fillet welds. and watch your surrounding areas for fire. sparks travel a long way. have a fire extinguisher nearby for safety. have fun while at it!
Reply:You're still whipping out a bit far in the last couple of pics. For a hot pass you want to go all the way out and then return to the leading edge of where the puddle was (since it'll have frozen by the time you get even halfway back) and pause. For a root, you want to whip to the leading edge of the puddle, go back to the center, and then start your next whip.Making circles is popular but not "right." You just want to whip back and forth so you don't have problems filling an open root gap, which you can't easily do if you're making circles.Currently working as a Paralegal, but still interested in hobby welding.Miller Bobcat 225ntOne- Character Fractions: ¼ ½ ¾ ⅛ ⅜ ⅝ ⅞
