Reply:wondering as well.  i have some old acetylene tips that i woul dlike to use for propane.
Reply:A propane rosebud has a series of openings around the end that are much differerent from a regular acetylene rosebud that is one piece with holes drilled in it.  If you google images you can see examples.  The propane torch looks like it is made up of several pieces.   If you try to run acetylene in a propane rosebud it will pop and be unstable... dangerous. You can run propane and oxygen in a acetylene rosebut but you will have difficulty maintaining a flame. It blows itself out very easily.  The flame speed of propane is much slower than acetylene.
Reply:I saw a thread here, where someone wrapped a regular rosebud in a piece of copper pipe to just inset the surface a tad.Supposedly it burned propane perfectly.
Reply:That was me. It works! I whipped it back and forth trying to blow out the LP flame and it didn't blow out. No problems, works fine.Click link below and scroll down for pics.http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/...p?f=12&t=86934There is no reason you can't clamp the "flameholder"  tube on, but I had a spare rosebud so I made it permanent. My friend who gave me the idea swats a piece of copper tubing over acetylene cutting tips to use LP, but I haven't tried that since tips are cheap and I've not seen his modification in action. I believe him, but haven't tested with cutting tips.
Reply:Thanks for explaining the difference between both so well...swimming fin
Reply:DO NOT mix rosebuds  you cannot change fuels it will blow up . Buy the right on for the gas you use Dont waste money on acetylene it cannot disolve out of the tank fast enough unless you manifold . Natural gas and ox is best and cheapest . Harris makes the best and biggest tips thats all we use , have over 20 in use every day heating 4" plate to 400 F takes a lot . John
Reply:farmall;  if i'm reading it right, all you did was attach a piece of copper tubing to your rosebud tip to stabalize the flame?  cut to length until you get the desired flame?
