what are the differences? I'm new and would like to start welding on simple small parts.. namely SS pipes and aluminum pipes.. anyone had good luck using the spoolgun?
Reply:I have the power mig 140c and it works great with the spool gun. I have welded a canoe, john jet boat,to square aluminum tubing for a shade umbrella. After welding the back fins on my john boat a coupleweeks later I stupidly backed-up in to something bent one of the fins straight up. I heated it up and bentit back down and it did not break the weld. Still ran a new bead just in case, for strength. The Power Mig 140's are pretty strong for 120v welders.
Reply:The 140C would be continuous voltage adjustment, the 140T would be tapped voltage adjustment.
Reply:Thanks, I forgot to mention that.
Reply:I also have a 140c and the spoolgun, dont use the spoolgun much, but it does do a good job on thinner al. My PM has good arc and a nice sweet spot and i couldnt be happyier from a 120v machine. I use mine on a regular basis and it always takes what i throw at it. Although now it might not see as much use since i just got a nice PM 255!Miller Dynasty 300dxSpeedglas 9002XMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeLincoln PowerMig 255xtLincoln PowerMig 140cMilwuakee Portaband
Reply:Don't waste your money on a 140.Get the 180. You will NEVER regret buying it.The saying goes: "Get a 140 and buy twice. Get a 180 and buy once..."
Reply:You are correct. I ended up with a Power Mig 216, yes not a 255 as two post earlier ,youlucky dog you! But I won't give my 140c up yet. Just got a call to weld a hole in a John boat. They only have 120V and I do not want to drag my 216 over there. Still wonderingwhy he won't bring it to me though. (lazy mabey, I do not know) but they pay I weld.
Reply:As you have just found out, there are situations where the 110V machines are key, if you have thin material and only 110V power, you just cant beat a small machine. Now you could drag a generator and load up you new 200# machine and head over there, but it is so much easier to throw the 50# 140 in the back seat and hit the road. I will not be getting rid of my 140c thats for sure, yes i do have the 255xt, but there will always be a place for the 140, just my opinion.Miller Dynasty 300dxSpeedglas 9002XMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeLincoln PowerMig 255xtLincoln PowerMig 140cMilwuakee Portaband |
