Mobile Base For A Job Box

I got this box a couple weeks ago and it has been real handy allthough it filled up too quick. I wanted a way to move it around the shop without a forklift so a mobile base was needed.Caster brackets made from 1/2" x 4" flat bar.Welded to a 24" long piece of 6" channel.This was my first time with steel dual shield. Lincoln 0.045" Outershield 71A85.Welded end plates to keep the box in the channel.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:The two finished ends.Added some 1/4" x 3" angle to keep them spaced right and I'm also going to put a piece of expanded metal on to make a shelf for storing small parts or material under the box.Had to add 3/8" of spacers because the corner of the legs on the box were binding on the taper of the channel.The finished product (minus the expanded metal shelf and paint).It is still able to be lifted out of the base from the front or the ends.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Doesn't yours have holes in the bottom to just attatch the casters?
Reply:It does but I wanted to be able to set it in my truck or a trailer without the wheels so it would be lower and not slide around.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Added bracing for the shelf and some expanded metal.Painted using the only thing I know how to use, Rustoleum gloss black spray can.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE

Reply:We made  frames with 2'' x 2'' x 1/4'' angle and drop box into it. Having it elevated with shelf below helps for additional storage. Definitely keeps you from bending over to dig stuff out of the box. I don't think anyone will steal the box but they might take the base.
Reply:Looks great and I bet you like having it higher off the ground too.  1/2" x 4" flat bar ... got to love good leftover (I assume) materials!  6" channel ... You've got a great materials pile.  Project came out great, nice work!
