I have an old maker back from California, my uncle just passed at the age of 95 and left behind tons of equipment dating back from the Oregon Trail.  Sadly his estates are in limbo right now and we must sell most of his belongingsI was wondering if you can give me some advice on how much ball park would someone pay for this type of equipment the Oregon Historical Center Already made a bid but I really want to know from a professional welder how much something like this goes for. It looks like this but this isn't the one, this was one i found on the internet ours is twice the size and was built on a dolly system with less wear and tear.and has another tank attachment on its side.
Reply:Do a search because there was just a thread on these. Last I remember it was too costly to get the necessary raw material(s). So I imagine that would lower the value."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Obsolete for practical use in the US even before the carbide shortage, if it's quite large that makes it less collectible.Sounds like the Historical Center would be a good place for it.It's no longer "professional welder equipment" in the US, though Rexarc still makes theirs and sells to less developed countries.http://www.rexarc.com/Last edited by farmall; 06-29-2011 at 10:09 AM.
Reply:Those things are pretty freakin' dangerous, and as the others have said, are no longer needed here in the US because acetylene is now so easy to get from so many places. Id send it to the museum, it sure is cool to look at [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:The later ones like that were likely reasonably safe. Rexarc wouldn't likely be (still) making them if they were bombs, but they do have strict safety precautions.  That water-filled flashback arrestor is there for good reason.Totally pointless in the US however, because they aren't convenient to use and carbide distribution even before the shortage was expensive due to HazMat fees.
